Raport: Connected health

Report od Capgemini Research Institute

Healthcare is undergoing a profound transformation driven by connected technology. The Capgemini Research Institute’s report, “The connected health revolution,” reveals the unprecedented opportunities that arise from connected health.

Based on a survey of 420 industry executives from biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and MedTech organizations, this comprehensive study provides a unique insight into the adoption and maturity of connected health initiatives. The results are striking: 63% of life sciences organizations have connected health products already on the market or under development, with nearly 20% of biopharma organizations having rolled out connected health offerings – a sixfold increase from 2021.

The report highlights the growing importance of connected health, with organizations anticipating an average contribution of 22% to their total revenue by 2028. This shift is fueled by the increasing adoption of digital health solutions, such as telemedicine platforms, clinical decision-support systems, and wearable technologies, which are revolutionizing patient care and generating new revenue streams.

The integration of generative AI technologies also offers tremendous potential benefits, including improved patient support, tailored personalized care, and increased operational efficiency.

However, our research also identifies key challenges that must be addressed to harness the full potential of connected health. These include strategy, governance, funding, technology integration, data management, regulations, and talent.

To overcome these hurdles, we propose seven practical recommendations for life sciences organizations to deliver a successful connected health portfolio:

  • Define and articulate your vision and value proposition for connected health
  • Design digital product offerings that deliver the proposed value
  • Design/develop scalable, secure, and compliant data infrastructure and operations
  • Enhance capabilities in digital, engineering, and human-centric design
  • Engage with partners, alliances, and early-stage innovators to share expertise and capabilities
  • Take measures to bridge the talent gap
  • Establish robust quality assurance processes to ensure regulatory compliance.
