What is the Energy & Utilities Pathway?

Energy and Utilities (E&U) is at the heart of some of the biggest challenges shaping society today. As part of this pathway, you’ll work alongside leading organisations that are transforming how energy and essential services are delivered for the future.

From accelerating the transition to net zero to helping businesses modernise and adapt in a rapidly changing world, you’ll contribute to projects that create lasting impact for millions of customers and communities.

This pathway could be right for you if you’re passionate about the sector, enjoy solving complex business challenges and want to help shape the future of an industry that matters.

Your Accelerate Journey

The Institute (First 3 months)

The Institute is a unique and immersive part of Capgemini Invent UK’s award-winning Accelerate Programme, designed to help you build the foundations of a successful consulting career. Following a three-week induction, you’ll spend 12 weeks developing core consulting skills through structured learning, practical assignments and real business challenges. With dedicated coaching, support and regular feedback, you’ll build confidence and gain hands-on experience before moving into client-facing work and live projects within your chosen pathway.

The Academy (Next 18 months)

Following the Institute, you’ll apply your skills as an Associate Consultant through real client experience.

From day one, you’ll be immersed in the realities of consulting, working as part of project teams, collaborating with clients and helping solve complex business challenges. Along the way, you’ll develop the skills, confidence and commercial awareness that define a successful Associate Consultant.

Supported by structured learning, mentoring and a strong peer network, you’ll gain exposure to a wide variety of experiences that will accelerate your growth and help you build a career that’s genuinely your own.

What You’ll Be Doing

Our Energy & Utilities team spans six diverse sub-sectors, giving you the opportunity to explore different areas of the industry and discover where your interests and strengths lie.

As an end-to-end consultancy, we support clients across a wide range of challenges, from strategy and transformation to operating model design and implementation. Your project experience could include digital transformation, change management, target operating models, and strategy and business cases.

This breadth of experience will allow you to work across sub-sectors, develop a diverse skillset and build expertise in the areas that excite you most, helping you shape a career that’s uniquely yours.

Alongside client delivery, you’ll have opportunities to broaden your network, develop new skills and build experiences beyond your day-to-day role through activities aligned with your interests and development goals.

These activities are examples rather than an exhaustive list. The opportunities available will depend on business needs and can be shaped around your interests and development goals.

By stepping beyond project delivery, you’ll gain valuable experiences that strengthen your consulting toolkit and accelerate your development.

Where Could the Energy & Utilities Pathway Take You?

The Energy & Utilities Academy gives you the opportunity to explore different parts of a diverse and rapidly evolving sector. Depending on your role, client and project opportunities, you could build experience across the following areas.

Following successful completion of the Institute and Academy, you’ll be eligible for promotion from Associate Consultant to Consultant.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for people who are genuinely excited by the Energy & Utilities sector and the vital role it plays in everyday life.

Whether you’re fascinated by the transition to net zero, the future of infrastructure, emerging technologies or the challenge of delivering better outcomes for customers and communities, you’ll be motivated by the opportunity to help shape the future of an industry that matters.

Beyond a passion for the sector, successful Associate Consultants bring a combination of curiosity, problem-solving ability and a willingness to embrace new challenges. If you enjoy learning, working collaboratively and approaching complex problems with fresh thinking, you’ll thrive in our team.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • A naturally curious mindset and a genuine interest in understanding how organisations operate and transform
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically when faced with complex challenges
  • A passion for learning new concepts, developing new skills and stepping outside your comfort zone
  • An interest in innovation, emerging technologies, data and how they can be applied to solve real business problems
  • The confidence to collaborate, communicate ideas effectively and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with the resilience to thrive in a dynamic consulting environment

Learning & Development

Learning is a core part of your Accelerate journey. The curriculum combines essential consulting foundations with elective learning, giving you the opportunity to develop the skills every Associate Consultant needs while exploring areas that interest you most.

Throughout the programme, you’ll build the consulting skills, methods and behaviours you need to succeed. Through structured learning, project experience and wider contributions, you’ll develop strong foundations while shaping your learning around your interests and development goals.

This combination of essential and elective learning will help you build a strong consulting foundation while developing specialist skills that support your long-term career growth.

What You Can Expect

Expect variety, responsibility and the opportunity to get involved from day one.

You’ll work alongside experienced teams, contribute to real project deliverables, engage with a range of stakeholders and gain exposure to different challenges and ways of working.
