Embracing abilities – Inclusion of persons with disabilities

Disability inclusion at Capgemini India

At Capgemini, disability inclusion is not just a compliance mandate—it’s a commitment to creating a workplace where accessibility and dignity empower every individual to thrive. As a proud member of the Valuable 500 and CII’s India Business Disability Network, we embed inclusion across our culture, operations, and leadership accountability.

Understanding the landscape: A Global and Indian perspective

  • Globally, over 1.3 billion people * (16% of the population) live with significant disabilities, with most acquiring them during their working years.
  • In India, 2.68 crore people * are estimated to live with disabilities, yet only 9.8 million are employed—highlighting the urgent need for inclusive infrastructure, awareness, and workforce integration.
Embrace abilities

We view disability inclusion as both a social responsibility and a business opportunity. Through inclusive hiring, accessible workspaces, and leadership enablement, we strive to create an environment where persons with disabilities are valued for their capabilities, not defined by limitations.

Capgemini has a Diversity, Inclusion and Equal Opportunity Policy which states that ‘the company is committed to equality of opportunity and dignity at work for all, irrespective of caste, religion, race, color, creed, ethnic or national origins, gender, marital status, sexuality, disability, class, financial status or age’. We strongly believe that inclusion is our strength, and creating an inclusive workplace is not just an aspiration but a commitment we uphold.

We are proud to share that Capgemini is part of Valuable 500, a global network of CEOs committed to the inclusion of people with disabilities globally. Our group CEO, Aiman Ezzat has joined this global movement in 2019 which called for 500 of the most influential business leaders and their brands to ignite systemic change by unlocking the business, social and economic value of the 1.3 billion people living with disabilities around the world. Click here to know more.

In Addition, in 2024, Aiman Ezzat also signed the ILO (International labor organization) pledge to include disability in sustainability efforts by committing to prioritize the inclusion of persons with disabilities in corporate sustainability practices, the ILO Global Business along with Disability Network is pioneering leadership in this field. Click here to know more.

Embracing Abilities

At Capgemini India, we are committed to creating a workplace that values ability in all its forms. Our inclusive culture is supported by tangible tools, policies, and people practices that remove barriers and enable meaningful participation for persons with disabilities.

Key initiatives supporting workplace integration include:

  • Inclusive job descriptions: Job postings is crafted with accessible language, focusing on skills and potential while avoiding bias.
  • Hiring manager sensitization: We provide toolkits and conduct specialized training for hiring teams to recognize and address unconscious bias and support inclusive recruitment experiences.
  • Reasonable accommodation: Employees and candidates can request workplace adjustments through a transparent and supportive process.
  • Voluntary and confidential self-identification (Self-ID): We encourage employees to self-identify in a safe, confidential manner to better customize support and drive systemic improvements.
  • UDID support program: We assist employees in obtaining and updating their Unique Disability ID (UDID), enabling better access to entitlements and government-recognized services.
  • CapAbility ERG: Our Employee Resource Group creates a strong community for advocacy, mentorship, and peer engagement among persons with disabilities and allies.
  • Buddy and mentor support: Employees with disabilities are paired with trained buddies and mentors who provide guidance, help ease transitions, and support integration into the workplace.
  • Dedicated helpdesk: A dedicated support channel that addresses requests like manpower for bag and wheelchair assistance.
  • Celebration of key observance days: We observe significant international days-such as International day of Persons with Disabilities and Sign Language Awareness Day-to build pride, visibility, and awareness.
  • Awareness & sensitization series: Through ongoing campaigns, storytelling platforms, and leadership engagement, we aim to foster deeper understanding of visible and invisible disabilities across all levels and functions in the workplace.

Together, these initiatives reinforce our belief that inclusion is action—and every employee deserves the dignity, resources, and opportunity to contribute fully.

Why it matters: Ability beyond barriers

At Capgemini, we believe ability transcends disability. From accessible hiring to inclusive policy reform, we are constantly working toward a world where PWDs are not only included—but celebrated. Because when diverse minds come together, the possibilities are limitless.
