IT takes CTRL The Sustainable Way

Sustainability in IT can help businesses reduce their carbon footprint before regulations change

Carbon footprints, sustainability goals, and net-zero regulations: all employees of organisations in 2022 recognise these terms and know they need to be addressed sooner rather than later. But not everyone knows the impact IT can have on sustainability goals.

In this episode of Future Sight, host Liz Lugnier talks to Capgemini colleagues Maxime Wyka, Management Consultant and part of the Sustainable IT Team; Laurence Jumeaux, Vice-President at Future of Technology, and Caroline Vateau, Sustainable IT Director. These experts discuss the topic of sustainable information technology and what businesses can do to tackle this power-hungry issue.

We learn that 4% of carbon emissions globally come from IT services. Much of this comes from corporations and should be mitigated. The guests discuss how each of us can reduce our IT emissions at work. For example, we can delete all unnecessary files stored on our hard drives and cloud servers.

More importantly, according to Capgemini Research Institute, 50% of organisations set sustainability goals, while less than 18% set goals for sustainable IT as part of their strategy. Today, organisations are responsible for establishing an IT sustainability roadmap and setting achievable decarbonisation goals before new regulations come into effect. In fact, early-stage implementation can reduce CO2 by 60% within an IT system. From devices and data centres to policy and change management, this podcast is a great addition to your net-zero journey.

Whether you are already a sustainability expert, or just excited to see the direction IT systems are heading, this podcast is a useful tool for reimagining what a sustainable future will look like.
