Largest IBM Maximo deployment modernises decades-old practices at major electricity provider

Our client needed to standardise and modernise its business to enable the implementation of a new asset management decision-making capability to increase efficiency. The chosen solution was to deploy IBM’s Maximo Enterprise Asset Management solution into the (North and South) Distribution and (North) Transmission businesses.

The Solution

A project of this scale challenged the way that the organisation had operated over many decades, necessitating the development of new organisation-wide processes to capture the impact of the proposed changes. To support the transformation we set up and managed a Project Management Office function, using communication and training plans to embed the new processes, systems and ways of working across both corporate employees and field-based engineers.

Our Accelerated Solutions Environment aligned senior leadership with the end goals, objectives and future design principles. This helped overcome any reluctance to change and potential resistance from the many external contractors that the company relied on, creating a collaborative approach that was focused on the positive impact of the project.

The Result

The formation of strong working relationships between all parties, along with the rapid mobilisation of the leadership team, helped to deliver rapid results. We trained more than 900 individuals from a total of over 1,700 end users, also replacing six legacy systems. An internal audit recognised the deliverables as being of exceptional quality, encouraging the rest of the organisation to follow our lead.
