I absolutely love my job. It’s incredible how one call from a recruiter changed my professional life. I joined Capgemini, and it has been a really rewarding journey.

Igniting a Passion for IT

My passion for IT ignited during the final year of my Mathematics degree at university. Driven by curiosity and a desire to explore something new yet related to my field, I enrolled in a programming course. I was fascinated and deeply impressed by how quickly technology could deliver results through programming. This experience was a turning point, sparking my decision to pursue a career in IT.

Following graduation, I continued to expand my expertise in software engineering by mastering additional programming languages. I honed my skills and gained valuable experience working as a software engineer for various companies. Eager to explore new horizons in IT, I transitioned into a role as an IT trainer, where I provided training on Operating Systems to clients. It was during this time that I discovered the fascinating world of TCP/IP. I was captivated by how devices communicate using this protocol, further feeding my passion for technology.

Breaking into IT Networking

I was eager to break into IT networking, and the perfect opportunity arose when I was offered a role on the largest network project of its time. The project aimed to build an extranet connecting over 200 sister companies. I was entrusted with the critical responsibility of securing this vast network, which involved building more than 200 firewalls. This experience significantly enhanced my network security skills and led to further qualifications. The project ultimately became the largest ISP in the country, and I took immense pride in being part of its success. Throughout this journey, I learned extensively, travelled widely, and had the privilege of mentoring and coaching many colleagues.

Relocating and Overcoming Challenges

Relocating to a new country was an invigorating experience, though it came with its own set of challenges, such as adapting to a different culture and navigating the complexities of being a new mother. These obstacles, however, only strengthened my resolve and fuelled my desire to enhance my skills further. I was passionate about my job!

After taking a year-long career break, I returned to the workforce as a Senior Tech Engineer at a telecommunications company. During this time, I honed my technical and problem-solving abilities and earned additional qualifications in networking and security.

Exploring IT Design

Driven by a desire to expand my horizons, I developed a keen interest in IT design. This led me to take on roles as Solution Architect and Product Designer. These positions allowed me to work closely with clients, gaining valuable insights into their needs and requirements, deepening my business acumen, and significantly improving my communication skills.

Becoming an IT Architect helped me elevate my skills to the next level. I began defining business and technical strategies in the Network Domain, collaborating with Senior Managers. I also took on leadership responsibilities, including coaching and mentoring, while continuing to enhance my expertise in the Cloud area.

I have had to work very hard to where I am today. Early on in my career it took a lot of determination and resilience to establish myself as a woman in tech. I had to work hard to earn my place, and to ensure my voice was heard. The landscape for women in technology is changing rapidly, and the more of us that forge a career in tech, the richer the sector will be for it – it’s the diversity of thought and skills that create innovation and make a real impact.

Future Aspirations

I absolutely love my job. It’s incredible how one call from a recruiter changed my professional life. I joined Capgemini, and it’s been a really rewarding journey. I am an Infrastructure Network Architect, working with various clients to govern end-to-end solutions and engage with different stakeholders to shape future-proof solutions. Additionally, I serve as a People Manager, leading an Architecture team.

The learning opportunities at Capgemini are truly fantastic, and that’s one of the many reasons I absolutely love working here. The environment is so enriching and supportive, allowing me to grow both professionally and personally. I feel fortunate to be part of such an innovative and dynamic team. I thoroughly enjoy working with technology, I am inspired by the team around me,  and I firmly believe that anyone can achieve anything if they set their mind to it.
