Who am I?

I grew up near Telford, Shropshire. I left school after A Levels and chose to start work instead of going to university.

After a few years in various customer service and project-based roles at the local council, I joined Capgemini in 2012 as a Project Analyst. This was after walking past one of Capgemini’s Telford offices on my way to work each day for 4 years, wondering what it would be like to work there!

I’m engaged to my wonderful partner Alex, and we have two dogs. In our spare time, we enjoy going sailing in Norfolk, and I also write for an online travel blog.

Roles at Capgemini

My current role is on a special programme for one of our public sector clients. We’re dealing with a large variety of topics, from IT solution delivery to the practicalities of transferring teams from one organisation to another, including HR and legal requirements.

Active inclusion and diversity has played an important part in my career, and at Capgemini I’m closely involved with OUTfront, our LGBT network.

Highlights so far

A real highlight for me was the opportunity to attend the National Student Pride recruitment fair in London in February 2016. My involvement was organised through OUTfront, and it gave me a chance to interact with prospective graduate recruits and discuss life at Capgemini.

I also had a chance to visit various other stands and events during the day, and got to see one of my favourite American drag queens perform!

Support that I value

For me, the training, networking and development opportunities I get through OUTfront have been the most valuable elements of Capgemini’s support. I would never have thought an employer would allow me to attend things like Stonewall’s role model training and workplace conference – let alone actively encourage me!

These opportunities have allowed me to reflect on what it means to be LGBT in the workplace. I now better understand the challenges that can still be faced when it comes to diversity and inclusion, and how I can help influence that situation in my everyday work.
