Subsea 7 future-proofs key global IT in new five-year contract with Capgemini

24 Feb 2014

London – Subsea 7 has awarded a five-year contract to Capgemini UK plc to support the SAP® ERP systems which underpin the majority of its key business processes worldwide. The contract includes applications management, applications development and server hosting, and aims to give the company the agility and scalability to fully support the ongoing evolution and expansion of its business.
Subsea 7 is a seabed-to-surface engineering, construction and services contractor to the offshore energy industry worldwide. Capgemini is one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services.
Graeme Smith, Subsea 7’s Director for Global SAP, said: “Our new contract gives us the simplicity of a single point of contact on our business-critical SAP systems, and enables us to deploy the full range of Capgemini’s SAP expertise. It also provides a high level of flexibility to ensure that we can fully support our infrastructure and ERP applications as we pursue future business development opportunities.”
The SAP solutions provided by Capgemini support some 14,000 Subsea 7 users in 15 countries for business applications that include finance, HR, payroll, procurement, materials management, production planning, plant maintenance and project management.  Following a short period of transition from the incumbent supplier,  systems hosting will move to Capgemini’s Merlin data centre in Swindon, UK, with back-up and disaster recovery facilitated by mirroring with Capgemini’s Toltec data centre in Bristol. Applications support and development will be provided by Capgemini teams based on-site at Subsea 7 in Aberdeen, at Capgemini UK development centres and in Mumbai, India.
Subsea 7 awarded the new contract to Capgemini following competitive bids from several multinational IT companies. Capgemini was successful because of its in-depth knowledge of SAP systems, solutions and services, its experience of IT outsourcing for global clients, and its excellent record of service and achievement at Subsea 7. A further factor was the outstanding sustainability of its multi-award-winning Merlin data centre which will contribute significantly to reducing the carbon footprint of Subsea 7.
Capgemini plans to combine dedicated infrastructure with an increasing migration to public cloud and virtualised cloud infrastructures in order to give Subsea 7 the most cost-effective service for each application based on criticality, performance, flexibility, security, resilience and compliance.
John Goodrem, Capgemini Account Director, said: “After an excellent seven-years of working with Subsea 7, it is gratifying that our relationship is to be not only renewed yet again but significantly broadened and expanded in scope. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Subsea 7 and contributing to their ongoing success.”
