Our corporate responsibility and sustainability journey: looking back at 2021

In 2021, we accelerated our journey towards becoming a net zero business, whilst continuing to foster an inclusive, diverse workplace and opening up employment pathways for those who are underrepresented in the technology sector.

Our responsible business approach underpins our commitment to our people, our clients and business partners, our suppliers, our communities and our planet as well as the long-term success of our company. It is our belief that digital transformation should benefit all of humanity and we strive to be a benchmark in terms of our contribution to society, for our own activities and for those of our clients.

I’m pleased to share Capgemini UK’s latest Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Report, which unpacks the highlights from our programmes of work and provides data summarising our performance.

Against the background of an increasingly turbulent year, we continued our focus on building an inclusive and sustainable future for all. A personal highlight was the work we initiated in 2021 to extend the ambition behind our net zero commitment to align our targets to the Science Based Target initiative’s (SBTi) recently published Corporate Net-Zero Standard. This standard is the world’s first framework for corporate net zero target setting in line with climate science. Previously, there was no shared, robust benchmark. During 2021, Capgemini supported SBTi’s development of the standard as part of their group of companies “road testing” the new framework. I’m delighted that in July 2022 we have been able to announce that our new, updated targets have been validated by SBTi as in line with the standard.

Here’s a few highlights from our 2021/22 report:

Looking to the challenges of the future, it is clear that only through continued collaboration between our people, partners, clients, NGOs and local communities, will we be able to build the inclusive and sustainable future we want. We need to inspire new ways of thinking and unleash the energy of innovators.

From my perspective, this means continuing to create inclusive knowledge-sharing spaces within our professional and personal lives, so that everyone is enabled to play their role in addressing climate change and in building communities where all feel welcome.
