Unsure of traditional routes, Gurleen was eager to enhance her knowledge and experience alongside her studies. Below she shares her journey!

I never quite fit into the traditional mould that my sixth form encouraged. While many of my peers were focused on following the conventional path to university, I found myself at a crossroads, unsure of what I truly wanted to do. My A-Levels choices of Biology, Math and Sport reflected my diverse interests – a very random combination, I know!

It wasn’t until I did some independent research that I stumbled upon degree apprenticeships. The concept of earning while learning, gaining hands-on experience while pursuing a degree, intrigued me. I’ve always been fascinated by computers and technology, so the idea of having the chance to combine my passion with education felt like the perfect plan.

That’s how I discovered the degree apprenticeship program at Capgemini. I embarked on this journey in September 2023 and I am currently pursuing a degree in Digital and Technology Solutions with Sheffield Hallam University. Stepping into the workplace straight after finishing my A-Levels seemed very daunting at first, but the support I received at Capgemini made all the difference. The support from my mentors and colleagues has been fantastic, guiding me both through the simplest of things like writing a profession email to more complex tasks and projects that have helped me grow in my role.

One highlight has been joining the Insights & Data Women’s Network. This group has boosted my confidence and helped me connect with inspiring women, making me feel more confident in my ideas and myself. Looking back on my first year, I’m grateful for the opportunities and experiences. Balancing work and studies is challenging, but it’s a journey I’m proud of.

If you’re feeling unsure about traditional pathways, remember that the journey to success can look different for everyone. Sometimes, taking a different path can lead to more rewarding experiences!
