From a young age, I was captivated by the rapid evolution of technology; it was my passion and favourite subject in school.

Intrigued by the rapid advancements in technology, Layla found her passion in a tech-focused career. Now part of the Women@Capgemini Employee network and motivated by her ambition to make a positive impact, Layla is committed to helping others enhance their skills and achieve empowerment through technology.

When I was in school, we were still taught that in order to get into the tech industry, you needed a tech degree, so I pursued this path. I enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Computer Science. I thrived academically, consistently earning top grades. Then, the unexpected struck: COVID-19. The pandemic hit during my final semester, turning the world upside down. Our professors had to rapidly transition to online learning, which was a daunting experience. Yet, through sheer determination and hard work, I graduated with first-class honours.

Recognizing the pandemic’s upheaval in the job market, I knew I had to elevate my skills and reflect deeply on what I wanted my future to look like. I also took the time to investigate which industries were in high demand. I vividly remember my undergraduate days, especially the modules related to technology and data. They ignited a passion in me that I couldn’t ignore. With a clear vision, I dove into a Master’s program in Data Analytics, driven by the support of my peers, tutors, and family. Their belief in me profoundly helped my journey, and I proudly earned a Distinction.

Just three months after completing my degree, I landed a coveted position at Capgemini, joining their graduate scheme in March 2022. This thrilling opportunity has allowed me to work on diverse and exciting projects across both the public and private sectors. Beyond the projects, I’ve been honing my presentation skills and pursuing globally recognized certifications, all while engaging in meaningful volunteer work.

One of my most rewarding volunteer experiences has been with Code Your Future (CYF). I’ve had the privilege of assisting a member in preparing for an interview to help them transition into the technology industry. Additionally, I’ve reviewed a young person’s CV, offered feedback, and given presentations at schools. A saying that always resonates with me is, “If I can’t see a particular change in the world, I should be the change.” I firmly believe in the importance of giving back to communities and supporting those in need. This principle drives me every day, and I am excited about what the future holds as I continue this journey. I am grateful to Capgemini for providing me with so many wonderful possibilities to help people.
