Did you know that the authors of Figure It Out regularly figure in the UK media? For the past 2 years the Operational Research team have supported Capgemini’s Consumer Products and Retail (CPR) Sector and IMRG (Interactive Media in Retail Group – the UK’s e-retail body) to create an index of e-retail sales in the UK. The index is a tool for tracking the growth in UK online sales value, by monitoring a basket of retailers’ online sales activity. In January Figure it Out 37 predicted 15% growth in the index in 2010 and to date this year we have been accurate to within +/- 4% with these forecasts. Over the last 2 years events such as the global economic downturn, general elections, postal strikes and world cups have kept the media interested in our analysis and what impact they have had on online sales.

This month has also been a particularly strong month for press coverage for the index tying in with an unexpected rise in high street sales month on month and separate research revealing that we are spending almost half our waking hours watching TV and using communications gadgets. In this issue of Figure It Out, we thought we would highlight and let you read where our figures have been published. There has been good coverage across both national and trade press (happy reading). The following articles appeared in the national press last Friday (20th August): In the Metro: Travel Spending Gives Lift to Online Shopping (see page 46)

On the BBC News Website: Online Sales Hit 3 Year High

Whilst the following trade press also referenced our figures: In the Retail Week: Online Sales Jump 18% Year – on – Year
