What is the AWS Restart Program?

The AWS re/Start program is part of AWS’ efforts to help grow their cloud computing skills for free by 2025. AWS re/Start is a cohort-based workforce development training program that prepares individuals for careers in the cloud and connects them to potential employers.

The program’s mission is to build local talent by providing skills and job opportunities to underrepresented groups such as disadvantaged youth, veterans, military spouses, those made redundant, female candidates and unemployed individuals with outdated skills.

We recruit technical and non-technical roles through the AWS re/Start program.

Capgemini UK is working with AWS re/Start partner, Robert Half Ltd, to offer both technical and non-technical roles to those who have graduated through this program. Our current technical roles are Platform/DevOps Engineers, and our non-technical roles are PMO Analyst. These PMO roles will support Cloud based client projects.

This program offers exceptional training and is an opportunity for people who want to restart their careers. Hear below from Bhumika Jalan who was part of the 2022 AWS re/Start program.

Bhumika Jalan
PMO Analyst, Capgemini

“I joined Capgemini in August 2022 as a PMO Analyst in the Cloud Infrastructure Services team. Currently, I am working with our Information Risk Management business unit as a project coordinator.

I had worked in the banking industry for almost 9 years. I started as a customer service representative and worked my way up to being a manager of a small team. I believe my transferable skills from my banking background have helped to prepare me for my role as a PMO Analyst, such as interacting and communicating with different departments and working on multiple projects – all while keeping deadlines in mind.

I left my banking job due to personal reasons, and while I was at home, I took the opportunity to continuously upskill myself. I have always had an interest in technology, so I started with iOS development which I really enjoyed. Alongside that, I joined the AWS re/Start program and completed the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification. From there, I was offered a role at Capgemini, and this has enabled me to continue to develop my skills and love of technology.

I think the best thing about my career is that there’s a lot of opportunity to learn and expand my knowledge; it allows me to always be on the top of my game, and it means I never get bored. The work is never monotonous because there always new challenges to overcome – and I’ve only just started!

I have really enjoyed working with Capgemini. I am very happy to be a part of the team and I’ve learned a lot from them. It’s a great place to work and I feel like I can see myself growing here, not just professionally, but also as an individual.

Capgemini has provided me with the right tools, knowledge, and experience to grow in my career. Currently, I am working as project coordinator but from here, I can go into risk, governance, finance, or any other area I choose. It gives me the opportunity to explore options and decide where I would like to grow my skills. I also have flexibility around my work and home, which is really important to me.”

At Capgemini, you don’t need a technology or IT degree or equivalent to have a successful career in tech. That is why we hire both technical and non-technical roles for the AWS re/Start program, which will help to bring more, brilliant people into the Technology industry.
