“Capgemini has been the work-life balance I have been looking for. A place that freely allows you to grow within your career, whilst allowing you to also focus on your life commitments – for me I love producing music and recording artists. This balance brings the best out of my productivity at work and helps with my well-being.”

What is it that you do?

I am an Oracle Cloud Solutions Developer within the ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) Team.

What does a day in the life look like for you?

Every day is very different but the main things which occur is working in an agile manner. Daily stand ups for projects and completing work which may involve several things from Integration Development (Allowing several applications to connect via data or processes) or Visual Building for SaaS, WebApp or Mobile applications.

More importantly, as a graduate you will find yourself having time to focus on your own development e.g. to work towards Certifications.

Lastly, there are always extra things within a team that you can get involved in, whether that is internal projects or something which I do myself is host the Weekly Business Unit Calls.

What advice would you give to students looking to apply to Capgemini?

I would advise students applying that there is always a role dedicated for you in the wide varying capabilities that Capgemini provide. So, if you’re unsure in what you want to do exactly but have some sort of idea – go with that idea, try it and whilst you experience it there is always the freedom to shape your own career and make changes within Capgemini.

What is your favourite thing about working at Capgemini?

The flexibility that is provided regarding hybrid working and work-life balance has been important and helpful, as it allows me to work successfully in my own manner.

What is your favourite Capgemini value?

My favorite Capgemini Value is ‘Freedom’.

What opportunities have you had to shape your career at Capgemini?

I have gained opportunities to understand multiple different roles within the consulting environment with my first project – Business Analyst, Project Management and Solutions Architect, although my main role being a Cloud Developer; this has given me greater understanding of what each team member would expect in a project.

Furthermore, the development of Soft Skills via workshops has helped improve my communication skills, which has been effective and used daily.

What did you study at university? How has this helped you in getting a job at Capgemini and in your role?

I studied a Science Masters and Undergraduate degree in Audio Engineering. There was a module within both degrees that got me into learning software development called “Audio Programming” – subsequently decided to create my own hardware/software for both my final major projects.

Throughout this process I learnt a few languages that ranges across Max/MSP, C, C# and Python.

Tell us what you think makes Capgemini a great place to work?

What makes Capgemini a great place to work for me is the culture, resources and opportunities.

The culture has been important in terms of when going into office, there is an open workspace allowing you to naturally network with someone you may never work with.

The access to resources has been essential to my learning, as I can use many different mediums to upskill and gain knowledge. The opportunities are endless as there is always so many events, volunteering and varying work you can get involved in that may not be part of your role. In addition, there is the freedom for internal mobility which Capgemini does encourage if you would like to.
