Gartner® case study on XL2 – an Audi and Capgemini joint venture – spells out the key to overcome digital skills challenge

18 Aug 2022

Today, the shortage of talent has become profound while the unstoppable pace of technology drives both the need for enterprise-level digital transformation and the high demand for new skillsets.

This is particularly acute in the automotive industry. Customer expectations are changing. Products are evolving and the entire ecosystems are growing. The cultural disruptions reflect the need for manufacturing companies to embrace the very different world of software development. All these trends require more digital talent to achieve strong outcomes.

Instead of embarking on a traditional transformation program, Audi and Capgemini decided to create a unique joint venture, XL2, to attract, retain and engage the talent needed for transformation. We believe XL2 represents what Gartner® refers to as a generative approach.; Audi and Capgemini came together to create something different from what they could realize by working on their own.

XL2 was conceived to sustainably develop the IT skills needed for its digital transformation. It has proved highly attractive to skilled talent thanks to a combination of start-up flair and the security of corporate backing from Audi and Capgemini. Capgemini’s recruitment and training have been a huge boost to staff augmentation, team enlargement, and specialized skill acquisition. This has made it possible for XL2 to scale flexibly while growing its own skill base in a sustainable way.
