Hi, I’m Swapnil Shimpi, a Senior Manager at Capgemini, where I lead the Automation Capability Unit (CU) within the QET practice. In my role, I focus on driving automation-led transformations, enabling modern tools, accelerating AI-driven innovation, and building scalable solutions across UI, API, and mobile automation. I also work closely with stakeholders and teams to shape automation strategies and strengthen delivery capabilities.

How does a usual day working at Capgemini look like?

My day is usually a good mix of strategy, collaboration, and hands-on execution. I spend time working with clients to shape automation roadmaps and transformation plans, while also partnering with delivery teams to implement or improve modern automation frameworks and maintain strong coding standards. A big part of my role is also about enabling people – supporting functional testers as they build their automation skills, reviewing implementations, and encouraging the adoption of tools like Playwright for faster, more efficient delivery. I also work on accelerators, reusable frameworks, and AI-led solutions that help teams deliver better outcomes.

Can you talk about your experience of learning at Capgemini?

Capgemini offers a structured and adaptive learning ecosystem, with upskilling programmes tailored for freshers and experienced professionals. What I value most is the hands-on approach, combining self-learning, instructor-led sessions, and practical assessments. Exposure to tools like Playwright, API automation, and mobile testing helps build real, practical expertise. Continuous certifications across tools, domains, and emerging technologies keep teams future-ready and have helped improve overall confidence and delivery readiness.

What project at Capgemini are you most proud of?

One of the most impactful engagements I led was a SWAT automation transformation program for one of our insurance clients. The challenge was that automation efforts were fragmented across teams. We assessed the maturity across streams, introduced a unified automation ecosystem, and established structured communication channels. A key challenge was driving change—helping teams move out of their comfort zones and adopt a standardised approach. With the right communication and strategy, we successfully transformed the automation landscape.

Another key highlight was a banking automation migration program in Australia, where we transitioned legacy automation to Playwright using an AI-driven approach. The project was delivered ahead of schedule, significantly improving efficiency and strengthening client confidence.

What piece of advice would you give to a new joiner starting in your role?

Focus on creating meaningful business value and understanding the bigger picture behind your work. Stay curious as technology evolves, keep building new skills, and take ownership of your growth. Capgemini gives you the platform, resources, and opportunities to learn, contribute, and grow-make the most of them to shape your journey.
