“An internship at Capgemini was the true starting point of my career – and of my new life in the United States.”

Tell us about your journey to Capgemini.

I’m originally from Cameroon, where I began my career as a teacher. I spent five years studying math to become a teacher and enjoyed the work, but I always felt a desire to explore something new.

There weren’t many opportunities in Cameroon, so I decided to move to the United States through the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program. When I arrived, I stayed with my uncle and had to start over in a different country.

My first challenge was the language barrier. In Cameroon, I spoke French, so communicating in English was difficult. I initially planned to continue teaching, but while waiting for my academic records to be sent from Cameroon, I started thinking more deeply about what really excited me about work.

I realized it wasn’t just teaching – it was solving complex problems. Whenever I could solve a problem, it made me happier in my job.

How did you move from teaching into technology?

I realized computer programming could be a good fit, so I decided to go back to college.

I earned an associate degree in computer technology and then completed a Java developer program at Per Scholas, a nonprofit that provides free training to people seeking IT careers.

That was when I discovered Capgemini. I researched the company, saw that it offered internships and applied. I was accepted, and those six months as a Capgemini intern became an incredible learning opportunity and the best start I could have hoped for.

What happened after your Capgemini internship?

I transitioned from intern to full-time employee, and the supportive environment remained the same. I still had the same excitement every day and the same encouragement from my colleagues.

Becoming a full-time employee at the end of my internship was one of my proudest achievements.

Today, I’m a consultant in South Carolina, working as a Lead Guidewire Developer at Capgemini.

How has your background as a teacher influenced your career at Capgemini?

My experience as a teacher is still part of how I work today.

I mentor new interns at Capgemini, helping them understand the company culture and best practices. It connects me back to my teaching roots – guiding others, explaining concepts and sharing knowledge.

It’s rewarding to see new developers grow and succeed, just as I have.

What are you most proud of in your career journey?

Looking back at my life in Cameroon, I could never have imagined that I would one day work for a global technology company.

Moving to the United States completely changed my path, and Capgemini gave me the opportunity to turn that change into a career.

I’m grateful every day for the supportive environment around me.
