SAP Cloud Platform—Follow the White Rabbit

Publish date:

Are we prepared in today’s technologically disruptive world of Digital Transformation, to ride the wave at the right time?

Perhaps Morpheus referred to the Digital Twins when he spoke of “..the mental projection of your digital self…” Perhaps Agent Smith meant Automation while he raged about “…never send a human to do a machine’s job…” Sci-Fi never ceases to amaze and soon become reality. The world of “Platforms” is the enabler.

Intelligently connecting People, Things and Businesses indicates why this Cloud Foundry-based PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) is integrating the technology stack (IoT, Blockchain, Machine Learning, Analytics et al) with Amazon, Google and Microsoft to reach out to the ecosystem. The re-branding of HCP (HANA Cloud Platform) to SCP (SAP Cloud Platform) was SAP’s play to fit the larger strategy of multi-cloud, multi-infrastructure, open source ecosystem for developers.

SAP Cloud Platform is a fundamental building block to SAP Leonardo (apart from the “agile in-memory cloud development and deployment platform” description you usually hear). To be truly agnostic (case in point—Leonardo), SAP has to ensure that anyone can build new applications and integrate from the existing landscape with any device and gateway. To have a combined services and tools offering, customizations and functionality extensions need an API-first approach. This means, the “digital core” should be intact and SAP cannot afford to change the underlying ABAP code every “upgrade.” If data from any source can be got onto SCP and processed, perhaps that’s what Hasso Plattner meant at SAPPHIRENOW, with the engineering on S/4 being finished.

Taking a technology-first approach, Capgemini’s SAP Center of Excellence is creating vertical-specific (industry) accelerators and templates. These are aligned to specific use-cases businesses need to jumpstart using Leonardo AI, Machine Learning, IoT or Blockchain applications. The Center of Excellence team is already productizing the next wave of enterprise applications. Under the Fast Digital 4 Discrete Industries initiative, the SAP IoT-in-a-Box offering is a preconfigured, plug & play, scalable end-to-end IoT solution addressing real-time monitoring issues related to operational performance of physical assets. The Procurement & Supply Chain offerings are executing automatically Smart Contracts, and verifying automatically the performance of suppliers against Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Trinity and Neo’s unusual conversation at the start of the Matrix is significant. Are you prepared to follow the white rabbit? The digital core is the “Wonderland,” and we at Capgemini are equipped to show you how deep the rabbit hole goes! To learn more on the SAP Cloud Platform and SAP Leonardo, meet my fellow experts Alex Bulat, Anne-Laure Thieullent, Valery Smague and me, Aditya, at SAP Leonardo Live in Frankfurt July 11 and 12.
