I came to the US to pursue higher education. Achieving an American MBA degree had always been my dream. The day I received my student visa remains unforgettable; I was overwhelmed with joy. It marked a pivotal, life-changing moment for me and my career.

I grew up in a small city in Bangladesh. Growing up in a small city, I faced many challenges in pursuit of higher education, especially as a woman. But I never gave up on my dream. While I was pursuing my bachelor’s degree, I competed on a prestigious TV reality show where I earned the title of first runner-up for excellence in classical dance and drama. I also spent four years as a full-time TV news and program presenter for a prominent TV channel and was the main actress in several drama series.

But a career in TV is often short-lived and I witnessed too many people frustrated when their glamorous careers came to an end, so I decided to continue my education in the US and move into IT for a more stable career.

IT is a constantly growing field with lots of opportunities to advance and specialize. I started my IT career as a business analyst after completing my MBA. When family responsibilities and the need to relocate came up, I had to rethink my career path. I discovered what truly inspired me was building relationships and collaborating with others. This realization led me to make a bold switch from business analyst to IT talent acquisition. I wanted to transition into a role where I could blend my expertise in data analysis with my passion for working with people. Since starting this new journey, I have found such joy in matching talented individuals with opportunities that suit their career aspirations and fit well with the company’s needs. This career change has been incredibly fulfilling and aligns perfectly with what I value most in my professional life.

What a great story. So, you’re a Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist at Capgemini now. Tell us what it’s been like.

My journey at Capgemini has been incredibly rewarding and dynamic. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds in the industry, matching top talent with exciting projects and initiatives. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to connect with skilled professionals and understand their career aspirations. The collaborative environment at Capgemini fosters innovation and allows me to continuously grow and develop my skills in talent acquisition.

What do days look like for a talent acquisition specialist?

My role involves identifying, attracting, negotiating, and hiring top talent to meet Capgemini’s staffing needs. I work closely with hiring managers and other stakeholders to understand job requirements and develop hiring strategies. I connect with candidates using multiple channels like job boards, social media, and professional networks. I work as a bridge between hiring managers and candidates to ensure smooth and efficient experiences for everyone.

Outside of talent acquisition, how do you stay connected within Capgemini?

I am actively involved in our Women@Capgemini Americas Employee Resource Group (ERG). Through Women@Capgemini Americas, I volunteer with one of our partners, Per Scholas, to provide mentorship, conduct mock interviews, and participate in virtual career fairs. Being part of an ERG allows me to contribute to fostering supportive and inclusive workplace culture while learning from and connecting with colleagues who share similar interests and goals.

But what really meant a lot to me was the two months I worked closely with our Employer Brand team to become an ultimate brand ambassador. Over two months, we tackled eight challenges and earned digital badges, leading to the recognition of being an ultimate brand ambassador. This achievement has inspired me deeply – it shows how dedicated and passionate I am about representing our company. It’s really empowering and motivates me to keep giving my time and enthusiasm to help us all succeed.

When I joined Capgemini with a newborn, I was overwhelmed by the warmth and support from my coworkers and leadership. Balancing the demands of two young children while excelling at work was no small feat, but I was incredibly fortunate to be part of such a supportive team. The encouragement and understanding I’ve received is not only comforting, but it also empowered me to grow personally and professionally.
