Tell us about your role. What does a day in your life at Capgemini look like?

As a chief architect, I enable my clients to align their IT infrastructure with their business strategy. My daily activities could involve any number of things and no two days are the same. I am involved in designing architecture roadmaps and strategy along with my team and I’m responsible for guiding more junior software engineers and architects in both their client work and their overall careers.

From a client perspective I might be involved in running workshops, discovering new business opportunities that could open new doors for the architecture community, or generally improving the footprint of Capgemini within my client’s business.

Together, all this enables us to help unleash the power of innovation and help our clients thrive through digital transformation.

What’s the best thing about working at Capgemini?

The best thing about working at Capgemini is the way we foster boldness and entrepreneurship. If you have a proposition, an idea, or even a dream, you can bring it to life. You are even encouraged to do so! That is a totally different mindset from most companies I know, which are more hierarchical and process-oriented.

The people who really thrive at Capgemini, develop in their careers and evolve as people, have a sense of initiative and really want to be proactive. Personally, I have been able to independently launch a number of initiatives. One has been a ‘digital lunch’ that provides a less formal platform for architects to discuss technology whilst eating together. I have also launched a board that enables young talent in the company with high potential to make a presentation to more senior managers and express their desire for a career in architecture. All I needed to do was explain to my manager why I thought the initiatives were a good idea and I was encouraged to go and make them happen.

For me, I feel recognized when I have the space to prioritize my learning and take upon projects that vary with a team that is passionate and enjoys what they do. Capgemini recognizes this in their core values and this is what drives me to excel.

What makes you proud to work at Capgemini?

What I like is the sense of partnership, positive attitude to challenges and creativity that result from collaboration with my team. We commit together, support and encourage each other to always push things further. Excellence is an honorable value, as it drives us to go beyond the limits of what might be difficult to do alone, but far easier to achieve together.

How are you working towards the future you want?

Getting the future you want requires you to think in the present. Being aware of one’s skills and talents is necessary to bring changes to future. By being true to ourselves, we can create a change in the world.

I will be looking to develop myself in France where I work, but then also globally, in my role as account chief architect. This will mean giving great visibility to the value of architecture and creating opportunities to help clients.

This will mean the need to network further, so I will take advantage of programs in Capgemini that can help me. One such program I took part in before was called Connect & Drive and helps with leadership training. It has meant I have been able to connect with people from outside the architecture community from across the globe and is providing me with opportunities for growth.

What advice would you give to someone joining Capgemini?

I encourage everyone to think about what they value as individuals and learn how they can make that shine in all they do. Personally, I especially value learning. Learning is what drives me and is something that’s at the heart of the architects community.

This is something that Capgemini understands and I have been able to make learning part of my own leadership style in France. We have two different sharing opportunities every week for the whole community, with one focused on a technological level and the other directed more to enterprise architecture. With more than 1,000 architects in France, there is a lot of value being shared amongst the community that will ultimately benefit our client’s businesses and therefore society.
