Defense in Europe

Defense in Europe has entered the digital domain where speed decides outcomes, and Europe must learn to produce not just more, but differently.

Today’s geopolitical environment has created new trends and challenges in European defense: Rising demand for defense-related products and services across Europe; a software defined-hardware enabled paradigm shift; radical shortening of innovation cycles; and a fragmented view on sovereignty.

Defense in Europe has entered the digital domain where speed decides outcomes, with progress becoming dependent on a more urgent operational tempo: producing digitally evolved equipment and capabilities in weeks, not years.

The imperative is clear: Europe must not only produce more – it must produce differently. Yet the industry is struggling to keep pace. Legacy factories and systems, fragile supply chains, skills shortages, fragmented approaches, and conventional mindsets risk leaving Europe underprepared for modern defense. Capgemini brings the digital expertise that helps defense manufacturers, suppliers, and armed forces scale production, adopt new technologies, and operate securely. With Capgemini’s support, Europe’s defense industry can produce smarter and faster, enabling a faster decision-making process and the innovation to deliver new capabilities

What we do

Capgemini partners with armed forces, governments, and industry to accelerate transformation. With defense expertise, engineering depth, innovation in digital and AI, European heritage, and end-to-end delivery from strategy through execution, we modernize production, harmonize supply chains, and ensure that critical and emerging technologies and capabilities are secure and compliant. We help defense organizations with:

Production acceleration

We help defense industries redesign factories, augment their workforce with new digital tools and skills, and harmonize supply chains to deliver at pace and scale – while embedding emerging technologies and security to strengthen resilience. Put simply, production acceleration turns funding into throughput: modern lines, skilled people, transparent multi-tier supply chains, and data-driven operations that scale on demand.

We help shift defense from hardware-centric models to flexible, upgradeable platforms where code, data, and cloud drive capabilities that evolve at operational speed – from digital twins to AI-enabled capabilities. In essence, software-defined defense moves capability from hardware to software, so nations can adapt in real time.

We ensure that defense organizations can control data, platforms, and intellectual property across their supply chains and borders, while remaining compliant with European and national frameworks. Fundamentally, we give manufacturers and defense departments the assurance that sensitive data, IP, and platforms are secure, sovereign, compliant – and cyber-resilient, across supply chains and borders, a necessity as defense operations increasingly depend on digital infrastructure.
