What if all lines of business or divisions, all geographies, all business functions and all core systems spoke the same language? Information Governance (IG) can deliver that. You’ll need to resist the tempation to overpromise the business benefits of an IG program, but many organizations have actually achieved this nirvana of cost savings, business agility, better reporting, faster market insights, happier regulators and even a re-motivated (data) workforce via a successful IG program.

IT and Business data users at a large UK business services organization felt re-energized by an IG program that had delivered a wide range of Group-wide standards, which allowed BI/Analytics staff to stop wasting time on fixing data issues and instead concentrate on deriving insight and value from their data assets.

IG creates standards for MI dashboards, master data, social data and Big Data as well as information security and compliance across all lines of business or divisions, all geographies, all business functions and all core systems (see diagram “Business Drivers at a Major Retailer”).
