To be a true intelligent enterprise leader, harnessing human and systems performance is critical. Enabling the intelligent enterprise needs a fresh approach, thought process, and strategy. To understand opportunities, and to develop tools and solutions for informed decisions that can be made quickly, you need the right people and business drivers in place.
SAP is orchestrating the bundling of front-office services into the back-office ERP solutions in its portfolio. Here, in areas such as finance and the supply chain, is where its true strength lies. While it is doing this, Capgemini is providing complementary services, by helping customers ride the transformation wave today and into the years ahead, without them experiencing any disruptions. By creating a unified data model, eliminating data silos, and allowing analytics on all types of data, Capgemini is pitching a unique architecture, adding extension frameworks through a microservices-based ecosystem. We believe strongly that rather than complicating the core with expensive future-limiting bespoke changes, it is possible to bring the transition to SAP S/4HANA together elegantly with the creation of an Intelligent Enterprise.
As the India Head of the Capgemini European SAP Centre of Excellence (CoE), I’ve had many customer meetings in H1. Hearing their pain points, including ‘How do I define an Intelligent Enterprise?’ and ‘What different kinds of value will SAP S/4HANA bring?’, we have rationalized our approach so as to build the foundation of our clients’ digital journeys.
The recipe was simple. Clients needed two things from someone they could trust as an advisor, and as a partner for the long term:
- Business, SAP and architecture expertise
- The right methodology, assets & accelerators
Our industry and LoB solutions have a sustainable and superior architecture, and have created a platform for innovation to enable client businesses to adapt to changing market dynamics. We have a clear, industrialized approach to simplify, standardize and future-proof the core by:
- Understanding the strategic business objectives, outcomes and reason for a SAP S/4HANA move
- Understanding the business processes, IT architecture, roadmap and all systems underpinned by SAP S/4HANA
- Understanding the delivery model, governance, business engagement etc.
- Understanding the events, priorities and skills required for the transformation
SAP is no longer just the traditional ERP solution: it is a platform, with ERP as one of many transaction engines bundled into it. All of the complexity that used to be built into the ERP, can be pushed out and built on the SAP Cloud Platform, while the SAP S/4HANA ERP core retains all that is needed.
Differentiation and innovation occur at the edge on a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), which goes beyond the world of the SAP Cloud Platform, and which includes capabilities from third parties such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Amazon AWS, and Salesforce/Mulesoft etc. Everything ‘bespoke’ uses microservices and the cloud to differentiate and be agile, and to access open API services which then connect to the RESTful APIs of our own solutions, which customers leverage to pursue a technology-driven business growth.
We believe we’re unique, because our approach is to stage a transformation from One Single Platform to One Integrated Architecture. The CoE has developed three key market differentiators:
1) Architecture Expertise: SAP S/4HANA / Digital / Cloud / API layers
2) Business Transformation maturity model & value analysis tools
3) Innovation services
Across industries, Capgemini, SAP with SAP S/4HANA, and the Intelligent Enterprise platform have enabled businesses to improve performance, reduce costs and optimize processes, ranging from:
- Asset optimization: 10-60% lower service costs
- Inventory optimization: 20-50% lower costs
- Operational performance: 10-30% higher productivity…
- … and also empowering real-time decision making
This is why so many organizations are moving away from our competitors, tired of expensive and complex journeys, of a lack of progress, and of non-hybrid best-of-breed scalable options.
