VINCI ENERGIES MODERNIZES AND OPTIMIZES ITS DATA INTEGRATION

Client: VINCI Énergies
Region: France
Industry: Energy transition and utilities

To manage an increasing amount of data, VINCI Energies partners with Capgemini to transition to the Anypoint iPaaS integration and API platform

Client Challenge: VINCI Energies wanted to replace an outdated ETL solution with an API-based platform within tight deadlines and without disrupting operations. This would help manage the increasing data volumes and facilitate the creation of new data flows.

Solution: VINCI Energies chose the Anypoint iPaaS integration and API platform from MuleSoft and partnered with Capgemini for its deployment using a co-construction method.

Benefits:

  • Simplification, security, and speed of data integration
  • Rationalization of methods and upskilling of internal teams
  • Adaptation and customization of data to the organization, process, and lifecycle
  • Scalability and sustainability of the tool

VINCI Energies is a subsidiary of the VINCI Group that designs and implements custom multi-technical solutions and services dedicated to energy, transport, and communication infrastructure, as well as buildings, factories, and information systems. The result of an ambitious external growth strategy, VINCI Energies is made up of 2,000 companies, each of which has strong managerial autonomy. To get a comprehensive view of its business, VINCI Energies needed to collect and aggregate company data, which it previously did with an Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) tool. In order to handle larger volumes of data, simplify and rationalize interconnection, and provide greater flexibility and scalability, the company wanted to replace this system with a more modern, API-based solution. Such a move also offers more possibilities and autonomy for the business units to use data as needed.

After selecting MuleSoft’s iPaaS Anypoint solution, which perfectly met the technical and functional requirements, VINCI Energies turned to Capgemini for implementation support. Beyond fulfilling a technological need, the project’s goal was to help the internal integration team adopt a new operational model. To achieve this, Capgemini and VINCI Energies used a mixed team and a co-construction method, which had the dual advantage of facilitating communication and promoting skill transfer so that VINCI Energies could eventually manage the platform independently.

More cohesion and flexibility for the organization

The project involved building a new integration platform, redesigning many existing applications to connect to it, and migrating them to a unified API base. Launched at the beginning of 2021, this strategic project was driven by two key requirements: meeting tight deadlines and not disrupting operations. This was made possible by close collaboration between VINCI Energies teams, Capgemini experts, and resources located both locally (Nantes) and offshore (India).

From the project’s launch to the integration of the entire application portfolio into the new platform, the complete transformation cycle took less than three years, a significant achievement given the scope of the task. Thanks to the Anypoint solution, VINCI Energies’ integration team, which is now autonomous, can manage API governance and operations, facilitate new interconnections, and rationalize costs, bringing more cohesion and flexibility to the group’s decentralized structure.

“This project is a great success! Firstly, we delivered everything promised to the business side. We saw tangible results in the development times for new flows, new interfaces, and the implementation of new APIs. We now estimate a 30% cost reduction in development compared to old methods.”
