Capgemini and Qualcomm collaborate to deliver a 5G solution for Schneider Electric that enhances the capabilities of automated hoisting systems

Client challenge: Schneider Electric wanted to improve the performance of its automated hoisting system with advanced connectivity to overcome wiring and WiFi limitations.

Solution: Capgemini and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. introduced 5G technology at Schneider Electric’s hoisting lab in Grenoble, France to demonstrate the relevancy of the Intelligent Industry solution.

As companies across every industry race to innovate with digital technology, 5G represents an exciting opportunity to enhance automation. For Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, 5G provided an opportunity to realize its vision of an enhanced automated hoisting solution that could be deployed at a wide variety of customer sites, such as steel plants and ports.

In order to develop an Intelligent Industry solution that would fit this ambition, the company needed expertise both within its industry and with 5G technology. To this end, Schneider Electric partnered with Capgemini and Qualcomm Technologies to design, integrate, and operate 5G network at Schneider’s hoisting lab in Grenoble, France.

“5G technology simplifies our architectures and allows us to overcome technical limitations we have been facing,” explains Jean Francois Carvalho, Hoisting Businesses Center Director at Schneider Electric.

With the 5G automated hoisting solution demonstrating a capacity for improving end-user productivity and efficiency while reducing the system’s reliance on wiring and WiFi, Schneider Electric is now ready to deploy it at end-user sites.
