Graduating in the mid of the IT-boom crash 2001, the outlook for a consulting position was near to nothing. Instead, I started my career as a Management Trainee and Marketing Project Manager within Financial Services. Though I really enjoyed it, my aspiration for a consulting role moved me on to Capgemini Consulting (today Capgemini Invent) in 2006. The key reason for pursuing a consulting role was to allow myself to explore a variety of different topics and a wide range of industries. Already during my first year I had the opportunity to carry out projects in four different industries – ranging from strategy to implementation – and by that gaining a steep personal learning curve. By the end of the day, this variety of new challenges has kept me going, now starting my fourteenth year within our firm.

Tell us about your role at Capgemini Invent?

Currently, I am heading our frog Customer First capability unit team in Sweden-Finland meaning that I am committed to ensure we have the right capabilities and mix of talents to help the commercial side of our clients’ organizations to resolve their challenges. In practice, this means that I spend most of my time with clients and supervise our delivery commitments. With my base in Gothenburg, I focus my time mainly with global manufacturing and automotive clients, even though I tend to travel a lot and thereby meet with clients across different industries and regions.

What makes you passionate about your work?

As a former hockey player, I love the same contextual setting of the consultancy profession, i.e.; there is always a clear goal, the people you work with share the same dedication; and there is a good culture of team spirit to enable success.

Also, as a consultant, you are expected to understand and deliver on the big picture as well as the nitty-gritty details, which always brings a stretch and continuous learning.

How does your work challenge you?

It challenges me constantly! There is almost never a standard advice on how to go about a problem or opportunity. It is all depending on the timing, situation, and context of our clients. Being at the forefront of sketching the first ideas and plans for how to help the client is what I find most fascinating and challenging.

Looking back at your years at Invent, what are your key takeaways and highlights so far?

I think Capgemini Invent brings a unique culture, allowing a lot of freedom and trust for the individual. This enables me to drive directions where I have the passion. Working with many different global clients of ours, I have had the pleasure to travel the world during engagements, but also have internal roles where I have had the pleasure of meeting up and sharing experiences with peers in our global communities.

In addition, the highlights are also about those internal moments and events where we meet up to celebrate. It could be team-, summer- or winter events – always with high energy levels and loads of fun.

A few years back we supported a global client of ours to go end-to-end from strategy to an industry-first e-commerce launch in 29 markets in just 5 months. It included all components of strategy, design, change management, implementation, and launch. Which resulted in a successful outcome, setting the direction for the company strategy for the years to come. In projects like this, you really feel proud of being at the forefront and having an impact on the company direction of what’s next.

The people of Capgemini Invent are all highly professional and competitive with a great drive and aspiration, still people are always very helpful and take pride in giving some extras and constructive coaching to support the success of colleagues.

What is your best advice to a student or younger professional about to start their career?

Some generic but good advice: You will always grow faster when you are surrounded with smart, challenging, and ambitious colleagues – which will always be the case at Capgemini Invent.
