World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos

January 15-19, 2024

Business, meet tech.

From January 15-19, leaders from business, government and civil society convened at the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF 2024) in Davos, Switzerland, in search of solutions to critical global challenges. This year’s event theme, Rebuilding Trust, focused on restoring trust in our future, trust within societies, and trust among nations, in a world that has gone through profound and disruptive transformations. As a WEF strategic partner and global industry leader, we took part in those critical conversations.

We also welcomed guests to the Capgemini Pavilion, where we hosted panel discussions and showcased demos around the following theme:

We believe tomorrow belongs to those who can bring technology and business together.

When digital meets physical, when Gen AI meets creativity, and when sustainability meets scalability, you can truly unlock the value of tech for your business.

Investment priorities for 2024

Business leaders are increasingly optimistic about their organizations’ performance and are driving investment in key areas. This is the main finding of the Capgemini Research Institute’s latest report, published to coincide with the WEF 2024.

Quick summaries from our three days at Davos

Our Day 1 at WEF 2024 focused on Gen AI and AWS, biosolutions, gov tech, and of course Peugeot.

Day 2 brought more great learnings on sustainability, digital healthcare, industry net zero, and future of work.

Day 3 was another day of inspiration, with a focus on the future of batteries and shaping the new frontiers of work.

The impact of technology on the labor market

Some of the most high-profile conversations were shared by live stream from the WEF congress center, including a public session with Capgemini CEO Aiman Ezzat: “What to expect from the labor markets?“.

The session was a real eye-opener. Technology, sustainability and geoeconomics continue to reshape the jobs landscape in 2024, while deeply divergent patterns for talent availability emerge in developed and developing markets. Speakers asked: What is the outlook for the year ahead, and what should be the priorities of governments and employers?

“Increased adoption of new technologies and broadening digital access are also major trends for organizational transformation. They will help address youth unemployment as well as enable underserved communities to access the workforce. Education and reskilling will be the key enablers for accelerating this evolution.”

Industry net zero

Roshan Gya, Capgemini Invent CEO, took part in an affiliate session on industry net zero with a focus on Scope 3 opportunities.

To achieve net zero by 2050, industries face an inescapable challenge: addressing value chain emission – defined as Scope 3, and accounting for more than 70% of global GHG emissions – at a much faster pace. To take a step forward, following the momentum of last year’s discussion, the WEF’s Industry Net Zero Accelerator Initiative has focused on Scope 3 challenges and opportunities.

This session follows one year of academic research, consultations with a community of 30+ industry executives, and a benchmark of 100+ companies. The initiative has unveiled 3 major opportunity areas in the path towards net zero: making profound changes in products and business models, grasping the potential of new technologies, and re-thinking value chain collaboration. Read more about it here.

Talks at our Pavilion included everything from a look at the dual frontier of sustainability and digital transformation, to how to boost productivity with Gen AI, a CEO perspective on giga factories, and promising futures for healthcare, the world of work, and the bioeconomy.

Capgemini CEO Aiman Ezzat spoke with Peter Herweck, CEO of Schneider Electric, about the incredible untapped potential of digital technologies, to be an accelerator of the sustainability transition for organizations.

Capgemini’s Franck Greverie hosted a session with AWS’ Matt Garman to delve deeper into how generative AI can help boost workplace productivity in 2024 and beyond.

Siamak Kia Montazam and Geoff McCleary from Capgemini led an engaging session on a future where data-driven healthcare transforms outcomes and patient well-being.

Rebecca Donaldson and Cassandra Padbury from Cambridge Consultants highlighted the potential of biosolutions to tackle many of humanity’s greatest challenges.

“It became clear that the single biggest differentiator in the effective implementation of AI is leadership; it’s crucial to understand that responsible AI exists for a reason with a need for education and learning in operationalizing the technology, and necessitating a fresh perspective on talent management, given it will create many new job opportunities.”

Biology as consumer technology

The integration of biology with fast-evolving digital technologies is giving rise to products that are more efficient, sustainable and tailored to the individual.

How can we better prepare for a future where products are not just made but are grown, adapted and evolved with the consumer?

Bio-based path to net zero

Biologically-enabled solutions represent an important but underutilized tool in the journey to net zero. To facilitate the transition to a more sustainable global economy, bio-based alternatives must enter into the commercial mainstream at a faster rate.

What core challenges must be addressed to deliver upon the ultimate potential of a bio-based economy?

The role of the office is still TBC

The contemporary workplace seemingly carries contradictions – remote work as well as an impetus to return to the office, and experiments with the four-day week as well as 24/7 connectivity.

What is the data telling us about the relationship between flexibility and productivity and how can leaders get the balance right?
