Capgemini joins the Open Manufacturing Platform

07 Jul 2020

Paris, July 07, 2020 Capgemini today announced that it has joined the Open Manufacturing Platform (OMP), which was founded in 2019 by Microsoft and the BMW Group to help manufacturing companies accelerate innovation at scale through cross-industry collaboration, knowledge and data sharing, as well as access to new technologies. The OMP continues to grow, recently adding Anheuser-Busch InBev, Bosch Group, and ZF Friedrichshafen AG as new steering committee members.

The purpose of the OMP Community is to provide a way for major manufacturing companies to solve their key industry pain points, including areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, IoT reference architecture, Semantic Data Structuring and Core Services for Autonomous Transport Systems (ATS).

Capgemini will bring to the OMP its expertise in Intelligent Industry – the digital transformation of industrial and tech companies – with a specific focus on the ‘IoT Connectivity’ working group. With the completion of the recent acquisition of Altran, Capgemini is strongly positioned to support industrial players in their digital transformation, by combining its deep knowledge of their businesses and its portfolio of offers that spans digital transformation, consulting and innovation, information technologies (IT) and operational technologies (OT), and engineering services.

“We are excited to join the OMP and bring our cross-sector expertise specifically in industrial IoT and the digital technologies transforming the plant floor, to benefit the broader industrial community,” said Franck Greverie, Chief Portfolio Officer and Group Executive Board Member at Capgemini. “With our decades of experience in driving innovation and helping manufacturers achieve their business goals, we look forward to expanding our collaborations even further and to helping the manufacturing industry transform together.”

“Capgemini is working with manufacturing companies every day and will enrich the OMP’s work by contributing their insightful perspective on real-world industry challenges. We are looking forward to Capgemini’s contribution as we help businesses apply and implement the results that the OMP working groups are driving,” said Ulrich Homann, Corporate Vice President Cloud + AI Group at Microsoft.

The OMP was founded under the umbrella of the Joint Development Foundation, part of the Linux Foundation, which provides the OMP with infrastructure and an organizational framework to create technical specifications and support open industry standards.
