Capgemini announces cloud-based SAP® software implementation project with excelerate energy

11 Nov 2014

NEW YORK, November 11, 2014 – Capgemini, one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services, today announced it completed the implementation of its cloud-based EnergyPath, a qualified SAP partner solution, with Houston-based Excelerate Energy, a leading liquefied natural gas (LNG) transportation and regasification provider. Designed for rapid deployment to provide Excelerate Energy with robust finance, procurement and sales capabilities while helping it to manage future growth, Capgemini has implemented its SAP-qualified EnergyPath solution, part of its Ready2Series1, provisioned from Capgemini Cloud Platform. The first phase of the project was completed earlier this year, equipping Excelerate Energy with an entirely new cloud-based infrastructure, SAP® software licensing, and a full implementation in less than four months.

Capgemini is providing Excelerate Energy with implementation services, application management, SAP software licensing, cloud-based infrastructure, and support. With phase one complete, Capgemini and Excelerate Energy are currently implementing the tools and solutions needed to effectively roll out new sales, project management and mobile capabilities.

In 2013, Excelerate Energy divested from German-based parent company RWE, which resulted in its requirement for a new information technology infrastructure and an efficient platform that could provide the internal service capabilities it needed to remain competitive and prepare for future growth. By leveraging Capgemini’s EnergyPath solution on Capgemini Cloud Platform, powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS), Excelerate Energy was able to cost-effectively move its finance, procurement, sales, planning and consolidation operations to a cloud-based ERP platform on time and on budget.

Capgemini’s EnergyPath solution for oil and gas companies offers an accelerated approach to implementing SAP Business Suite software. Through the EnergyPath solution, Excelerate Energy is able to benefit from the tools and infrastructure needed to effectively improve operations and respond to common workflow challenges. EnergyPath is part of Capgemini’s OnePath offering, which bundles the SAP license with Capgemini’s services. Through the offering, Capgemini simplifies adoption of SAP Business Suite as a service, which combines SAP software, implementation, cloud infrastructure and support from a single provider in a packaged delivery model. Capgemini Cloud Platform allows customers to embrace a variety of Capgemini solutions via the cloud, and is a turnkey managed service for customers looking for a low-cost and efficient way to leverage pay-per-use models for their enterprise infrastructure.

“After our divestiture from RWE, we needed to quickly and efficiently implement an ERP system,” said Richard Hormann, Finance Controller, Excelerate Energy. “We’ve been extremely impressed by the overall speed-to-value provided by Capgemini. Within four months, we are now running our finance and procurement operations on a new ERP system that is specific to our industry thanks to Capgemini and their cloud-based approach.”

“We are very happy to have successfully met our timeline to complete phase one of Excelerate Energy’s implementation of SAP software,” said Rob McKay, Senior Vice President, North America Energy, Utilities and Chemicals Lead at Capgemini. ”By using our EnergyPath solution and moving Excelerate Energy to the cloud, we’ve provided the company with added operational agility to meet its needs for future growth.”

“We’re excited to see transformative companies such as Excelerate Energy deploying complex, multi-function SAP platforms in production on AWS,” said Terry Wise, Director, Worldwide Partner Ecosystem, Amazon Web Services. “Capgemini’s team of application services experts has enabled Excelerate Energy to leverage the AWS Cloud to reduce time to market, lower total cost of ownership, and offer the flexibility to scale as the company grows.”
