Supporting the work of The Prince’s Trust
We’ve been working with The Prince’s Trust for over 10 years. In 2015, we launched our Digital Partnership, providing young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with a foundation in digital skills and supporting them to move into employment, training or education. During our one week ‘Get Started’ courses, participants create their own mobile apps, learning how to take their ideas from concept to prototype, before pitching the ideas to a ‘Dragons’ Den’ style panel made up of our technology experts.
In 2017, we ran six digital skills courses, plus taster sessions, which benefited 85 young people. 80% of participants achieved a positive outcome within three months of completing the course, such as entering employment, education, further training or continuing to work with The Prince’s Trust.
The courses also provide a rewarding volunteering experience for our people and clients. 78 people volunteered on the programme in 2017, with almost half of the volunteers from our clients.
Working with Code Your Future to help refugees learn to code and build the skills need for employment
We are delighted to announce a new partnership with Code Your Future. They are in their own words, “a non-profit organisation supporting refugees with the dream of becoming developers.” Code Your Future want to help refugees and asylum seekers, “in their journey of interrupted lives, unfinished studies and integration challenges”, who lack the opportunity to update their tech skills.
Seventy percent of course participants are expected to find employment within six months of completing the course, with ten of those intended for placement directly with Capgemini in the UK on permanent contracts.
Drawing on the support of Capgemini’s technical mentors and business coaches, and taking advantage of open source software, the course will allow participants to study around family and other commitments through learning from home, attending regular weekend lectures and collaborative tutor groups. Students will also learn a variety of additional skills to bolster their employability, including digital interview techniques, communication, team working and problem solving.
