Founding our BAME network

On October 1, Capgemini Invent Consultant Jerome Grant founded the CBAME (Capgemini Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic) Network. Six weeks and one exceptional launch event later, the network is our largest in Capgemini UK with over 200 members. Jerome explains why he set up the network and how the launch event went in this short interview.

I joined Capgemini Invent from a consulting background with experience from Private Wealth, Retail and Investment Banking clients. I am the founder and chair of our BAME employee network, a new initiative that forms part of our active inclusion strategy.

Active Inclusion at Capgemini is all about making sure people can be their authentic selves at work. Our vision is to be recognised by our current and future workforce, our clients and the wider market as a truly inclusive organisation, where everybody feels valued, included and empowered. For me, the CBAME Network is a key part of making that happen, we know that having a business which is representative of the diversity of our clients and communities makes sense. We strive to give our people the knowledge, skills and cultural awareness that we all need to work collaboratively in an increasingly global market.

On November 8 2018, we held our first event to celebrate our launch. We set out a modest 60 seats initially, only to see well over 100 people pack out our 8th floor Accelerated Solutions Environment in Holborn. We heard inspirational messages from our executive sponsor Nivedita Krishnamurthy, and an equally important note on the power of networks from Frances Duffy, HR Director. Our panellists from across the Capgemini business provided thought-provoking discussion on their personal BAME experiences through-out their careers, and our colleagues travelled from far and wide for a celebration of achievement and excellence. All in all, the launch event was a huge success, there was a unique buzz in the room amongst our diverse audience. We captured input from attendees to shape our objectives for 2019, our community is contributing to a very bright and inclusive future for Capgemini, I’m so proud to be a part of it and excited for what’s next.
