Capgemini UK plc has won a five-year IT outsourcing contract to host the IT infrastructure
of C.Hoare & Co, the UK’s leading independent bank. The new 24×7 service
takes effect from June 2008 following a short transitional period during which
the bank’s main IT hardware will be moved from the C. Hoare & Co headquarters
in Fleet Street to a secure Capgemini data centre in the UK.
The contract was signed following a detailed evaluation process involving competitive
bids by a number of IT vendors.
Alexander Hoare, Chief Executive of C.Hoare & Co, said: ‘Our strength as a bank lies in our provision of first-class personal service
to our clients backed by high levels of efficiency and excellent data, and we
are confident that working with Capgemini will maintain and enhance the IT service
which provides vital underpinning for our work.’
The bank says that its contract with Capgemini will also improve the cost-effectiveness
of its IT support, provide access to the expertise of a global leader in technology
and outsourcing, and enable valuable space occupied by computer facilities at
its Fleet Street headquarters to be made available for other business activities.
C.Hoare & Co was founded in 1672 and its contract with Capgemini is a landmark
in the bank’s 336-year history. The bank’s customers have included Samuel Pepys,
Lord Byron, David Garrick, Thomas Gainsborough, Lord Palmerston and Anna Pavlova.
Its archives are an important source for those researching the history of banking
and British social history. Its website is rich in historical detail, including
the work of former chairman Sir Richard Hoare who, as Lord Mayor of London in
1745, organised the city’s defences against possible attack by Bonnie Prince Charlie.
The bank has doubled its balance sheet and profits over the past five years and
plans to do the same over the next five. It remains a family business and its
customers are discerning individuals and organisations seeking the kind of personalised
service not always provided by larger banks.
Kevin Roe, Account Director at Capgemini UK, said: ‘We are delighted to work with such a respected institution in the UK financial
arena and we look forward to delivering a service to C.Hoare & Co that matches
in excellence that provided by the bank to its own clients.’
