Capgemini, one of the world’s largest providers of IT, Consultancy and Outsourcing
services today announced a sponsorship deal with Britain’s newest football club
AFC Telford United. The sponsorship follows Capgemini’s take over of the Inland
Revenue IT business from EDS. The company is now one of the largest private sector
employers in Telford.

Martin Cook Capgemini’s CEO for the Inland Revenue business said, “We liked AFC
Telford United’s aim to be both successful on the pitch and to develop a strong
community programme. The sponsorship offers some excellent opportunities for our
employees to get involved. A strong sporting team can add a sense of vibrancy
to the local community and we’re pleased to be part of it. I’m looking forward
to celebrating Telford’s wins during the season and working with them in the local
community.”

Local Wrekin MP, Peter Bradley, who has worked closely with the newly formed
club to ensure their progress, said “Its clear that Capgemini have come to Telford
with a strong focus on their employees and a committed approach to the local community.
Their sponsorship of AFC Telford United makes perfect sense, it will help cement
the club’s future and position Capgemini well as a significant local employer.”

Capgemini’s branding will be visible on the club shirts, in the ground, on all
merchandising and in all publications. The club has already sold 210 season tickets
and can draw its fan base from across the 160,000 population of Telford. Ian Dosser
Capgemini Chief Financial Officer on the Inland Revenue account will join the
club’s board.

Lee Carter Chairman of AFC Telford United said he and Simon Shakeshaft, Commercial
Director, were delighted with the sponsorship agreement. “It is a momentous day
for the new football club, and to agree this deal gives the club further credibility
and a stronger foothold in the business community of Telford. The work that the
players will benefit the whole Telford community.”
