Maatr app

Maatr app helps combat maternal mortality with AI and
Machine Learning

India lost 35,000 mothers to childbirth-related complications and pregnancy issues in 2017, according to UNICEF. With the right information and timely guidance, nearly 90% of these deaths would have been preventable.

The Maatr health app was created as part of the Tech4Positive Futures Challenge and won top honours across the globe for its vision in addressing a critical social and health issue. For over 12 months, the Maatr team researched the complexities of India’s reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) sector, and competed with 162 ideas from 12 countries, to come up with the winning solution.

The app deploys predictive analytics, remote diagnostics and voice technology to support frontline
healthcare workers in tackling maternal healthcare-related issues better and faster.

Armed with a grant of 100,000 Euros, the Maatr team has partnered with Karuna Trust, an NGO, to pilot the solution in Primary Health Centres across Bengaluru and rural Karnataka. With innovative features such as risk case predictors and on-field portable diagnostics, the Maatr solution has been well-received by frontline workers.
