Abstract: In May 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a European Union framework for the protection of personal data, will come into force. Trust is the key to a solid digital reputation, and GDPR compliance is vital to keeping that trust if you are handling the data of European citizens. However, many organizations are focused on the 2018 deadline and will not be prepared to meet the needs of their business come 2022. By designing a GDPR strategy with your 2022 vision in mind you will be much better prepared for 2018 and beyond. In this session learn about the impact of GDPR and how Oracle can help your organization get ready for both 2018 and 20

Session 7

Title: Data Management and Security in the GDPR Era
Speakers: Russ Lowenthal, Oracle
Franck Hourdin, Oracle
Mike Turner, Global COO Cybersecurity, Capgemini
Session Type: State of the Art Cloud Platform: Database, Identity and Security; Conference Session
Session Date / Time / Location: Tuesday, Oct 03, 3:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. | Moscone West – Room 3011
Abstract: The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the most significant data privacy legislation to date. With enormous potential impact on IT security and operations, GDPR fines can be as high as 4 percent of company revenue, making GDPR compliance a business-critical issue with board-level interest. GDPR becomes effective on May 25, 2018, so if you are not already working on GDPR compliance, you are behind schedule. Databases and the privacy-sensitive data they contain are at the heart of GDPR and should be one of the first areas of focus in your compliance strategy. In this session learn about the impact GDPR is likely to have on managing your data, typical preparatory strategies, and which database features and controls are applicable to GDPR.

Session 8

Title: Modernizing Legacy Systems with Oracle Cloud PaaS
Speakers: Colin Daly, Oracle Technology Director, Capgemini UK Plc
Luis Weir, Principal | Oracle Ace Director, Capgemini UK Plc
Session Type: State of the Art Cloud Platform: Application Development, Integration; Conference Session
Session Date / Time / Location: Tuesday, Oct 03, 4:45 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. | Marriott Marquis (Yerba Buena Level) – Salon 15
Abstract: It is a fact that around 80 percent of the world’s business-critical systems are legacy. Although such systems might be stable, they aren’t flexible and scalable enough to cope with modern digital requirements. However, modernizing such systems is not easy task. Millions of lines of code hide several years of business logic, which in most cases is not documented or in people’s heads. Businesses are therefore faced with a dilemma: take a risk and modernize them, or do nothing and risk becoming the disrupted as opposed to the disruptor. In this session learn about a legacy modernization approach that leverages Oracle Cloud PaaS (Oracle API Platform Cloud Service, Oracle Application Container Cloud, and others) to incrementally modernize legacy systems.

Session 9

Title: Design, Build, and Manage Microservices APIs with Oracle’s Apiary Solutions
Speakers: Kathryn Lustenberger, Oracle
Luis Weir, Principal | Oracle Ace Director, Capgemini UK Plc
Robert Wunderlich, Oracle
Session Type: State of the Art Cloud Platform: Application Development, Integration; Conference Session
Session Date / Time / Location: Wednesday, Oct 04, 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. | Marriott Marquis (Golden Gate Level) – Golden Gate C3
Abstract: There is no doubt that microservice architectures are changing not only the way systems are designed and built but also how they can be delivered. What’s rarely discussed though is how the APIs exposed by microservices are managed throughout the entire development lifecycle and therefore ensure there is visibility and control. In this session see how Oracle API Platform Cloud Service and Oracle’s Apiary solutions adopt an API-first design approach for microservices, implement continuous integration ahead of building the microservice, publish the API in the developer portal along with comprehensive API documentation, and define API permissions so developers can find the API in the portal and use it.

Session 10

Title: Oracle API Platform Cloud Service Implementation Best Practices/Lessons Learned
Speakers: Niklas Olsson, IKEA
Luis Weir, Principal | Oracle Ace Director, Capgemini UK Plc
Phil Wilkins, Senior Consultant, Capgemini UK Plc
Session Type: State of the Art Cloud Platform: Integration; Conference Session
Session Date / Time / Location: Wednesday, Oct 04, 4:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. | Moscone West – Room 3002
Abstract: The new Oracle API Platform Cloud Service and Oracle’s Apiary solutions offer a complete, end-to-end platform for implementing APIs in their full lifecycle. However, as it is the case with any new product, there are always hiccups along the way. In this session hear about the lessons learned and implementation best practices when implementing this cloud in large enterprises. Topics covered include the use of Apiary solutions to enable API-design and collaboration in multivendor/multigeo environment, deploying API gateways in a cloud infrastructure, promotion of APIs from development to test and production, tagging API calls to make them traceable end-to-end, and a model to deliver global APIs without geo performance issues.

Session 11

Title: API Management and Microservices, a Match Made in Heaven
Speakers: Luis Weir, Principal | Oracle Ace Director, Capgemini UK Plc
Session Type: State of the Art Cloud Platform: Application Development; Conference Session
Session Date / Time / Location: Wednesday, Oct 04, 5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. | Moscone West – Room 2005
Abstract: Microservices architecture has changed the way systems are designed, built, and delivered. What’s rarely discussed is how APIs exposed by microservices are managed through the entire lifecycle so developers (internal and external) can discover and subscribe to APIs via developer portals and also so API owners get visibility into and control over their API usage. This presentation takes an API-first approach to designing and building a Node.js/Mongo microservice, which will be packaged in a Docker container and run in the cloud. You will see installation/configuration of an API gateway to manage the API as well as creation and publication of HTML 5-style API docs along with an API blueprint in the developer portal so developers can discover and subscribe to the API.
