“Everyday at Capgemini I have the opportunity to explore new areas and develop skills that I didn’t already have.”

What does your average day look like?

When I am on project, I tend to be working within a team of data scientists and software engineers to build AI/ML models to automate data processing for clients. Typically this involves coding in Python, researching new techniques and methodologies, documenting my work and preparing code for production.

I also reserve time during the week to contribute to internal initiatives within Capgemini! Currently I am part of Invent for Society, Women@Capgemini and the Digital Inclusion Team, where I have been helping develop our volunteering program in Australia and New Zealand.

What’s the best thing about working at Capgemini?

The best thing about Capgemini is definitely the people. Everyone I work with is incredibly generous with their time and energy. I have learnt so much from the people around me who have been willing to coach me, mentor me, support me, check my code, give me feedback on my work, and provide me with opportunities for growth. The desire to help others is genuine at Capgemini, and I couldn’t be happier that I’m at a company where helping others is the norm.

What makes you proud to work at Capgemini?

I’m proud of working at Capgemini because of how dedicated everybody is to ensuring that we make our clients happy and solve their problems to the best of our abilities. I’ve seen my own team work incredibly hard to get things over the line, stepping in to help others beyond the scope of their responsibilities. The level of dedication to helping our clients is admirable, and it makes me proud to be part of a group of people who put in their best efforts to help others.

How are you working towards the future you want?

Every day at Capgemini I have the opportunity to explore new areas and develop skills that I didn’t already have. If I want to learn something or build my skill in certain areas, I can find the resources and the experts who would be willing to help me. People will find ways to give you opportunities to develop your skills or gain experience in your areas of interest.

I am also in a pilot mentorship program at the moment. This has been an excellent experience for me so far. My mentor has been extremely helpful and supportive of me, by working with me to identify my vision and goals for myself, and figuring out the steps for me to achieve them. I have a greater level of clarity and confidence in achieving the future I want through the work I’ve been doing with my mentor.

What advice would you give to someone joining Capgemini?

Don’t be afraid to ask people for help! Everyone is so friendly and willing to help you if you just ask.

Capgemini is the sort of place where opportunities abound, but it’s up to you to be proactive to take them. I would advise new joiners to take ownership of their own development and journey, rather than rely on opportunities to come your way. Sometimes they will come your way, but if you direct your own journey, you will get a lot more out of your experience at Capgemini.
