 Software is eating the world

Every company is becoming a software company. An example is car companies. Vehicles are transforming from a piece of hardware to an app on wheels (updates every 1–2 weeks). Ask someone with a Tesla if you don’t believe me. Also, in the food industry, software is a booming business. Consider Unilever. Unilver is working on printing food through 3D printing. All departments and functions are becoming more digital, more algorithmic and more software driven. “Software is eating the world” Marc Andreessen.

Next steps

AI creates better AI. AI is moving from analysis AI, to AI doing creativity activities (such as art), to intuitive AI. This last step is important. It will lead to solutions we cannot comprehend. It requires a completely different way of looking at your organization and product innovations. But how can you start working on solutions that nobody can understand? Adapt to the AI-first way of thinking. You start with the possibility space – AI. Then, think of the hardware, which is a derivative of the first step.

Become a gardener

As AI will create better AI, we have to move from being programmers to being gardeners. We create the context in which things can come into existence. Therefore, we need to let go of control – control within the organization and control of technology. As I stated earlier, this requires a completely different way of looking at your organization and product innovations.
