Most companies would feel that executing a campaign is the most complex part of the lifecycle, well it surely is, but is it something you as a retailer be spending much time on? Execution is complex but planning is extremely crucial !! A solid planning in terms of product, target market, segmentation, options(never have only one approach so if that fails you are busted). I would say campaign management utilizes all the buzz words of the recent times : web content management, social media, big data, etc. etc. So how do you do it to maximize the impact, reach, use every information possible from customer behavior , take necessary actions, and most importantly measure ROMI.
