I’ve just finished off a new paper on MDM “Mastering the Information Ocean” which talks about the different business areas for MDM

  • Customer Centric
  • Enterprise Centric
  • Supply Centric

And how the different elements such as data classifications and the holy trinity of entities can really drive a much simpler approach to MDM which delivers the business value in a more concentrated and effective manner.
The metaphor I’m using is about how to stop companies “Drowning in Data” by using MDM to create the clear navigation points for both analytical and operational systems.
MDM needs to stop being a technical solution to a data warehousing problem and start becoming a business solution to the information problem.
