In this quarterly review, the Capgemini Research Institute enables leaders to identify the strategic imperatives for the future of business, and the society in which it operates. We dedicated this edition to what is widely considered to be today’s most pressing issue for not only businesses, but humanity as a whole – climate change and the actions we must take to reduce its effects. We specifically looked at the role of climate technology – looking at ways to transform the way we live and do business through adopting and adapting, innovating, inventing, and embracing technology and sustainable practices.

The growing urgency around climate change has placed it at the forefront of global issues. To avoid its worst impacts, global greenhouse gas emissions must be halved by 2030 and lowered to net zero by 2050.

Being a significant emitter of greenhouse gases, food loss continues to be a major problem across the lifecycle of food.

In our Capgemini Research Institute report, we explored the issue of food waste in depth to understand its causes as well as potential solutions from the perspective of both organizations and consumers. To this end, we conducted a detailed survey of 10,000 consumers and 1,000 large organizations in the food manufacturing and food retail space and interviewed experts from academia, organizational supply chains, and startups.
