Highlights from our Young Professionals induction workshop

Capgemini
13 May 2019

A new group of Young Professionals (YPA) kick-started their career at Capgemini Finland this spring. This blog jointly authored by a team of fresh Young Professional program joinees introduces the first chapter of their Capgemini career: the Collaborating with Clients (CwC) workshop.

The CwC this spring had 13 young professionals who started their four days of training, learning and networking with great enthusiasm. The course consisted of various learning tasks such as presentation skills, giving and receiving feedback and adopting several consulting business tools. In addition, there were plenty of daily energizers like team exercises and joint breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks.

After getting introduced to the course content and the program of the week, the participants were divided into smaller teams in which they would continue working for the rest of the course. The teams started collaborating with an ice breaker – a task where the teams had to build the highest tower they could make solely out of paper. This exercise was a great way to build team spirit! Each member also had the chance to introduce him/herself in the form of creating his/her own crest, which had three parts demonstrating life before Capgemini, expectations towards the upcoming career and life outside work.

One of the most useful methods learned from the course was giving and receiving feedback – something, which would be later utilized several times during the groups’ business cases. The participants also got a chance to improve their presentation skills with a visiting instructor. They learned plenty about verbal and non-verbal communication, which is important in their future career and life in general.

During the week, participants also got to meet the senior management of Capgemini Finland and had the chance to ask them some questions. In addition, some members of the previous YPA group came to visit and shared their own experiences. Later, the previous YPA group hosted an after-work party. It was a nice ending to the week, and everyone got the possibility to relax and have fun together after the hard work!

The week surely was hectic and intense, but also fun and rewarding! CwC provided great and comprehensive knowledge of a consultant’s daily work at Capgemini. After the course, each of the Young Professionals will continue an individual journey towards becoming a Capgemini professional in their own specific area, but the induction team, or the YPA team as we know it, will continue meeting regularly and have multiple joint events during the six-month Young Professionals program.

Finally, a tip for future YPAs: gather data and make a friend!
