Capgemini gives me the opportunity to develop as a person and as a consultant. Early on I got a lot of responsibility and could challenge myself in my project.”

– Tell us about your role. What does a day in your life at Capgemini look like?

I work for a global automotive client and I’m part of a small team that set up the structure for their consumer data. Together with my team, I am now responsible for the quality of this consumer data.

A typical day starts with a morning meeting, where we discuss any issues we might face and what plans we have for the day. I often go on to investigate how our markets work with consumer data in their processes. To understand that, I draw their system landscape to grasp which systems are involved in the process. Then I gather information regarding what rules they have for their consumer data and what needs they see. I then compile all this information and share it with my amazing team. My team and I analyze the information and then get back to the market representatives with improvements they should make to their processes, or new rules we need to implement, in order to improve their consumer data.

– What’s the best thing about working at Capgemini?

Capgemini gives me the opportunity to develop as a person and as a consultant. I started in the graduate program, Ignite, where I got the chance to attend educational courses on presentation skills and Grandmaster, to be a better consultant overall.

One thing that made a big impact on me was my ability to travel during the graduate program. I visited India and got to meet a lot of my colleagues. Even though we had worked together virtually before, meeting them face-to-face made such a big difference.

– What makes you proud to work at Capgemini?

Capgemini is a big organization, yet still has a very open and friendly culture. I think it’s built on the seven strong values that we all share in the company. They are important to me and are a good guide for how I behave at work and in my project. I think honesty and boldness are the two values that have made the biggest impact on me.

I have a very honest relationship with my client. We have an open dialogue, which builds a lot of trust, enabling us to make bigger and better things together. By making sure I value boldness, I ask the questions that perhaps some wouldn’t and it’s these that often lead to new and exciting possibilities. Being bold means you take opportunities, even if they push you out of your comfort zone and that means you grow and develop as a person and in your career.

– How are you working towards the future you want?

I work with talented and inspiring people who I learn something new from every day. That’s important for me in becoming a better consultant and person moving forwards. Capgemini creates the environment that enables this. There are a lot of very talented and experienced people in the right places to assist new consultants like myself. When you’re with them, you see how things work and if you ask the right questions, you learn things you would never learn from a book. Capgemini is a very big company, but it really feels like a big family. If I felt like I wasn’t creating value or continuing to develop, I know my manager would very quickly support me and start looking for a more suitable role or project for me.

– What advice would you give to someone joining Capgemini?

The number one piece of advice I would give is to get to know your colleagues from the start. Talk to each other at times that aren’t completely work focused and whenever you get the chance to be face-to-face, take it. Your work will be so much more fun if you get to know the people you are working with, and when you do, you also know whom to turn to when you need advice. Secondly, I would say be bold, think outside the box and challenge yourself and your colleagues with your ideas and thoughts.

– How has Capgemini’s support been since the pandemic began?

I was on parental leave when the pandemic started, so I didn’t have a project when I got back. However, I was able to take some courses to further my development until I was able to join a new project and it was a really great use of the time. My manager called me often just to check on how I was feeling and see how everything was going. This was both before and after I was back working on client projects, so it was very clear to me just how much Capgemini cares about its people.
