“I ultimately chose to join Capgemini and the IgnITe-program because there are so many opportunities at the company. It sounds like a cliché, but it really is like that – there are endless of opportunities to create the future you want.”

I joined Capgemini through the graduate program IgnITe. When I started it had already been a year since my graduation, with a Master’s in Management, Communication, and IT.

At the time I was working at another IT consultancy company, but I was very curious about Capgemini since I knew about them from the campus events they attended when I was a student. I ultimately chose to join Capgemini and the IgnITe-program because there are so many opportunities here. It sounds like a cliché, but it really is like that – there are endless of opportunities to create the future you want.

Tell us about your role. What does a day in your life at Capgemini look like?

I’m a Business Analyst, which is a quite broad role, and what I do depends on the project I’m on. In my current project, I’m a Business Analyst but also a Scrum Master. This means that my everyday activities vary from both coaching the team within scrum and hosting monthly scrum events, to also working operationally with our process within Software Lifecycle Management that we have built and now started to work on at the client.

So, either I am at the Capgemini office or out at the client’s office and working with my team there, consisting of five other consultants, of which four are from Capgemini. We usually start with a morning coffee and then have our morning meeting where we talk about the day, and you can raise anything you need help with. The day progresses with individual work, meetings, lunch and fika. If I am at the Capgemini office, I take the time to see my colleagues there but otherwise the day looks similar.

How are you working towards the future you want?

That’s a good question. I have received the question several times about what I want to do in my next project, and in five years. I think it is hard because there are so many paths to choose from, but I am trying to map it out for myself what type of project I want my next one to be, and then create my own path to get there, through different certifications within a specific domain for example.

I get help and support from my manager in this as well, and tips about who to network with at the company that possesses knowledge about a certain subject. I also talk to Sales to hear what they have in the pipeline to see which upcoming projects could interest me going forward.

I think a lot of it comes down to making it clear for myself what I want in order to see what I need to do to get it, because you do need to go after it yourself, no one else is going to do that for you.

What makes you proud to work at Capgemini?

It is a very inclusive company. There are all types of people who work here. We also have a lot of different initiatives, for topics such as sustainability and to get women to network within the tech industry, both of which I think are really important to drive.

And I have a lot of fun here. I enjoy it with my colleagues and there is a nice sense of community, which makes it hard for me to see that I would want to quit. So, what makes me proud is definitely the culture, the values and the people.

What is your best advice for a student who dreams of starting a career at Capgemini?

I would start with following us on our social media. Both on LinkedIn and Instagram you can find announcements and links to sign up for our office nights which are great opportunities to network with us, and of course keep an eye open for when the application opens for our IgnITe program.

Maybe start thinking a bit about what your own future at Capgemini might look like – where do I want to be in three years?

It is always good to ask a lot of questions, mingle and network! You can always add me on LinkedIn if you have a question about Capgemini or the IgnITe program, I am happy to answer any student question.
