– Tell us about your role. What does a day in your life at Capgemini look like?

I am a part of the Test Data Management team at the Sogeti unit in Kansas City. We’re in the process of using our software to protect the data of healthcare insurance company in order for them to move their software testing to Capgemini’s offshore resources.

A regular day for me could involve performing regular data masking tasks and reviews, developing new algorithms to mask data, working on scripts or other utilities to assist the team, or all of the above. It’s definitely a mixture of both individual work and teamwork. I work within the team, but sometimes I will take on individual projects for the team’s benefit. It’s very exciting work that allows me to learn continuously on the job and solve interesting problems on my own and with the help of a very talented team.

What’s the best thing about working at Capgemini?

It’s the work culture and the community. I work within a fairly small team and I started right before COVID shut everything down, so I only met one person from my team in-person. Despite that, it feels like I haven’t really missed a beat and we’ve all been working together for over a year now. The ties within the unit are really strong and we have a really powerful sense of community.

The culture of Capgemini has been a huge part of my experience even though I haven’t been around my colleagues physically. It’s definitely a supportive culture. We fail or succeed as a group and so we definitely go above and beyond to help anyone that needs it, leveraging the best of our collective strengths.

What makes you proud to work at Capgemini?

What stands out to me is Capgemini’s commitment to its core Values. They aren’t just for show, and I feel that everyone at the company works hard to embody those Values. My leaders are very conscious of the fact we are protecting and obfuscating real people’s data. They embody the Trust and Honesty – two of our company Values – that go with that and are hugely supportive in enabling the rest of the team to do so too. That is what fuels our excellent performance and creates a great environment to work in.

How are you working towards the future you want?

Capgemini gives you the keys to your own future, and all you have to do is get behind the wheel and work towards what you want. There is so much support for continued learning, whether it’s industry certifications or advanced degrees. You are surrounded by team members bettering themselves and it is never hard to find someone who has already done what you’re doing to ask for advice.

What advice would you give to someone joining Capgemini?

My best advice is to dive in. This is my first role in technology consulting and it can be a big adjustment, but the opportunities with Capgemini are endless. There is such a wealth of knowledge and talent available to you, even within your local team, that any effort you put in can be rewarded tenfold, so don’t wait.

How do you think Capgemini’s support has been since the pandemic began?

I love how Capgemini were really quick to embrace remote working and make it successful. There has been a total embrace of the model and we were able to hit the ground running in a really rough period for the business sector in general.

The forward-thinking mindset has really helped keep us performing well and the obvious value that Capgemini places on my safety as an employee really helped when everything was so strange and different. It’s comforting to know you’ve got a company like Capgemini behind you.
