3rd Annual Corporate Responsibility Summit
On May 18, 2017, the Council for Corporate Responsibility, in conjunction with the National Diversity Council, hosted its 3rd Annual Corporate Responsibility Summit. Capgemini and Schlumberger served as the co-sponsors for this event. 100 CR professionals, and business and community leaders attended this event.
The theme for this year’s Corporate Responsibility (CR) Summit was: “Advancing Your Corporate Social Responsibility Agenda: Lessons from the Leaders”.
The Summit topics featured best practices that businesses have implemented to promote higher levels of corporate citizenship, as discussed by professionals from various industries who shared their expertise across the following dimensions of CR:
- Measuring the Business Impact of Diversity & Inclusion: Organizational Best Practices
- Leveraging ERGs to Support Sustainability
- Global Organizations Drive Social Innovation
- CR Governance: Aligning CR Strategy with Expectations of the Stakeholders
- Evaluating the Efficacy of Your Organization’s Supplier Diversity Program
Sponsoring this event was important to Capgemini as a primary differentiator for the attraction of talent and clients is a comprehensive Corporate Responsibility strategy that resonates with candidates and the market. We know the value proposition that comes as a result of joining with other organizations and the community for healthy dialogue about CR best practices, and to receive feedback from internal external stakeholders.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) originated at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. The objective was to produce a set of universal goals that meet the urgent environmental, political and economic challenges facing our world. The SDGs, officially known as, “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” is a set of 17 “Global Goals” with 169 targets between them. Spearheaded by the UN a deliberative process involving its 193 Member States, as well as global civil society, the goals are contained in paragraph 54 United Nations Resolution A/RES/70/1 of 25 September 2015.

Capgemini has chosen to focus on SDGs 9, 12 and 17.
Sustainable Development Goal # 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure – Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.
Goal 9 encompasses three important aspects of sustainable development: infrastructure, industrialization and innovation. Infrastructure provides the basic physical systems and structures essential to the operation of a society or enterprise. Industrialization drives economic growth, creates job opportunities and thereby reduces income poverty. Innovation advances the technological capabilities of industrial sectors and prompts the development of new skills.
Sustainable Development Goal # 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
Economic growth and development require the production of goods and services that improve the quality of life. Sustainable growth and development require minimizing the natural resources and toxic materials used, and the waste and pollutants generated, throughout the entire production and consumption process.
Sustainable Development Goal # 17: Partnerships for the Goals – Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
Achieving the ambitious targets of the 2030 Agenda requires a revitalized and enhanced global partnership that brings together Governments, civil society, the private sector, the United Nations system and other actors and mobilizes all available resources. Enhancing support to developing countries, in particular the least developed countries and the small island developing States, is fundamental to equitable progress for all.
Annual Ideagen UN Empowering Women & Girls 2030 Summit
Capgemini was a proud sponsor of the Annual Ideagen UN Empowering Women & Girls 2030 Summit. Our support of Ideagen is a continued extension of Capgemini’s support of gender balance.
The focus of this year’s Summit was Business and Entrepreneurship. Summit participant discussed challenges they faced and they changes they can make to establish the pipeline for future generations of successful women to be successful.
Kim Smith, Capgemini NA Chief Digital Officer Kim Smith and Corporate Responsibility Executive Sponsor served as a moderator at the event.
“My biggest takeaway from the event was the power of ideas. I believe Paola said it first but others echoed her sentiment, “your idea can change the world,” throughout the day. It was a beautiful message on the importance of dreaming big and focusing on the positive. And, every panelist was vivid proof of what you can do when you believe.
I also loved hearing from the next generation in the panel about Technovation. Those girls were incredible! So thoughtful and so articulate at such a young age. It was exciting and inspiring to see.
Also, at a more practical level, I loved the idea of the “warm mind” project at Intel, where you can express what’s working and what’s not, before you make a choice to leave. I like this as a way of creating gender parity because it focuses on the root of the problem (or at least attempts to identify the roots) and does it for all employees. We are all in this together and making the workplace work for all helps women too. I believe that too often when there is a focus on women, the conversation is all about women. To make real progress, especially in the corporate sector, I believe we need both men and women in the conversation. If men have more flexible policies, they can better support their working wives and vice versa. Overall, it was a great session and an outstanding selection of panelists.”

Women In Digital
On July 13, 2017, in the San Francisco Office Applied Innovation, NA hosted its first Women In Digital event, a collaboration between Group Women @Capgemini, NA Women LEAD Employee Resource Group, and the NA CR Team.
Women@Capgemini created this strategic program to contribute to the acceleration of business by aligning to our clients, partners, employees and shareholders’ expectations in a world where gender equality is a must. These events are around themes which are part of the Group strategy (e.g, Digital) and where we make a deliberate effort to ensure that we have a balanced representation of women and men amongst our speakers and guests.
Advancing Diversity & Inclusion from the Inside, Out, Anti-Defamation League (ADL)
Capgemini understands the importance of sharing our Diversity & Inclusion best practices “beyond our walls.” To that end, we have strong partnerships in the community that serve as our megaphone.
The Southwest Regional office of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) in Houston hosts programs that include No Place for Hate®, fighting hatred and encouraging diversity in schools K-12, and Community of Respect® encouraging respect and inclusion in all other areas of the community, such as businesses and community organizations.
The Anti-Defamation League Women’s Initiative unites diverse women professionals in ADL’s efforts to promote respect and challenge bigotry through dialogue and awareness.
- In December 2016, Capgemini partnered with the ADL to host a brief for community and business leaders on cyberhate.
- In 2017, Capgemini has served as the lead sponsor for Women’s Initiative 2 key events, both anchored around the topics of Diversity & Inclusion and gender balance.
- The first Women’s Initiative event was held on International Women’s Day, was on the topic of the Art of Perception, which has powerful connections to unconscious bias.
- The second community-wide event entitled, was a panel discussion on September 7 entitled: Join the Conversation: In Pursuit of Workplace Gender Equality. The panel explored solutions to gender inequality in Corporate America and the legal system.
