I joined Capgemini Invent in February 2017. After graduation, I worked within management consulting, both in consultancy firms and in-house roles. I was working for a high-tech company in Ireland, when I started to consider moving back home to Finland. I wanted to work for an international consulting firm that had a base in Finland, but that would allow me to travel and work abroad, especially in Sweden. What made me choose Capgemini Invent was the people I got to talk to in the recruitment process, as these were people that I really wanted to work with.

I am one of those people who get very excited when a new learning opportunity or challenge presents itself. In addition to my M.Sc. in Finance I have a master’s degree in International Peace and Conflict – probably not the most typical educational background. Capgemini Invent is a great fit for me, as different educational and career backgrounds are seen as real assets.

Tell us about your role at Capgemini Invent?

I am a Manager at Capgemini Invent’s Corporate Experience team which is part of the Enterprise Transformation unit. In projects, I act as a project manager, managing a team of consultants. I am also a counselor (mentor) for several junior colleagues, coaching them about their career development and helping with any challenges they might face in their daily work.

Looking back at your years at Capgemini Invent, what are your key takeaways and highlights so far?

At Capgemini Invent, the learning never stops. The market we operate in is constantly changing which keeps us moving and pushes us to seek new opportunities to learn and grow. Looking back, a couple of highlights worth mentioning are the interesting projects and clients abroad, and of course all the amazing people I have had the pleasure to work with during the years.

How does Capgemini Invent support your development?

I have frequent interactions with my counselor and manager to discuss my personal development. I also have regular meetings with my engagement lead in my project to get his or her perspective on what I should focus on next. Capgemini Invent has a very clear career path with outlined expectations for every grade which gives me a sense of direction and helps me to identify my strengths and development areas.

Tell us about the role as a counselor?

Being a counselor is one of my favorite parts of this job. I get to interact with bright, ambitious, yet humble people who want to develop and learn. In general, my goal as a counselor is to help my counselees to find the right answers for themselves but I do tend to give one recommendation: to set up a recurring counselor meeting in the calendar; when immersed with client work it might otherwise be difficult to find the time to discuss your own personal development and career goals.

What characterizes the people and culture at Capgemini Invent?

Down to earth and nice to work with, honest, curious, smart, and helpful. I can laugh and have fun with my colleagues at work which is one of my favorite things about Capgemini Invent.

What is your best advice to a student or a young professional who dream to start a career in management consulting and at Capgemini Invent?

Try it out! It’s the only way of knowing whether it is for you or not. Keep a curious mindset, practice case studies, show your enthusiasm, and take the leap!
