In the wake of the financial crisis, accounting and regulatory bodies are focusing on the role played by fair value accounting practices, lack of transparency in the over-the-counter derivatives market, and the under-regulation of the shadow banking market in the proliferation of the crisis. This in turn has led to certain key legislative developments that are being formulated to address these gaps and that are likely to impact financial services institutions.
