Meet Micha\u0142, a Solution\/Delivery Architect at Capgemini.<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\"><strong>You were a keen basketball player, and now you\u2019re a keen programmer. I\u2019m curious about this transformation\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">I did indeed play professionally. I was a player for a well-known club in the country and represented Poland at the U19 World Championships.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">Leaving sport, however, was a conscious decision. I hung my shoes on the proverbial peg because it was time for a different career. Programming wasn&#8217;t a random choice, of course. You can&#8217;t just stop being an athlete and become a programmer. I\u2019ve been interested in it since I can remember. When I parted ways with basketball, I already had considerable experience from projects done during my studies. I was looking for stable work and a company focused on people and their development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\"><strong>Tell me about your beginnings at Capegemini.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">I started as a Junior Automated Tester. Back then, Capgemini was mainly associated with the German-speaking market, but a division handling financial-sector projects for English-speaking clients was just being established. I was drawn in by the scale and complexity of these projects and the promise of continuous growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\"><strong>And what do you do now?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">I wear two hats. As a System<strong> <\/strong>Architect, I\u2019m responsible for the architecture&#8217;s shape and the project&#8217;s strategic direction. Simultaneously, I act as a Chapter<strong> <\/strong>Lead for a large group of specialists on the client side &#8211; in this role, I\u2019m a competence leader, supporting the development of members, ensuring consistency of standards, and promoting best practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\"><strong>That\u2019s a giant leap. Describe it in basketball terms.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">Okay, I\u2019ll give it a shot. I started playing in the junior squad, and now I\u2019m managing a team at the EuroLeague level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\"><strong>How did this journey look from a technological point of view?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">Although formally I was an &#8220;automated tester,&#8221; I already had a strong background in JavaScript and developer experience. The firm gave me a chance, steering me toward projects where I was immediately groomed for a leadership role. It was a solid example of mentoring and shadowing in practice. I walked the path from Junior to Fullstack Developer to Architect. The key was that I wasn&#8217;t afraid to take on challenges and kept my eye on the ball &#8211; providing the best possible code, that is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\"><strong>What specifically are you working on now? What does your current project look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">I took over a strategic project for an international bank. It\u2019s an application used to calculate financial securities and assess risk for large clients with solvency issues. Our main goal was an immediate migration from old, unmaintained technologies to a modern stack. We moved from legacy tech such as AngularJS and Java 8 to Vue<strong> <\/strong>3 and Java<strong> <\/strong>21. We have the entire cloud set up in Microsoft<strong> <\/strong>Azure using the Infrastructure as Code approach in Bicep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">My role involves architectural, cost, and performance optimization, which means identifying any architectural and security deviations and fixing them. This whole process, and especially its success, led the client to nominate me for two roles &#8211; System Architect and Chapter Lead. I think it\u2019s hard to find better confirmation that we have a real impact on our clients&#8217; businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\"><strong>You work with a financial institution. What\u2019s the bigger challenge &#8211; technology or industry regulations?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">Technologically, it is undoubtedly a top-tier and highly developmental project, but it is the regulations that determine the solutions. Not the other way around.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">Financial institutions must comply with very restrictive regulations issued by the European Central Bank and the European Banking Authority. This dictates the choice of technology. So, we have to create solutions tailored to regulatory requirements while also meeting a range of client requirements for security and scalability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\"><strong>What skills are most essential to cope with such complex projects?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">Ignoring my love for JavaScript, which is essential for the front-end, at the top of the list is logical and analytical thinking.
