Capgemini develops impact measurement tool to support Red Eléctrica’s Circular Economy Roadmap

02 Nov 2021

PARIS, November 2, 2021 – Capgemini has supported the Red Eléctrica Group with the development of a tool to measure the results of the company’s Circular Economy Roadmap, in order to determine the viability and efficiency of roadmap initiatives on an ongoing basis, and to measure its overall impact.

As a leader in sustainability and member of Spain’s Circular Economy Pact, Red Eléctrica is committed to the implementation of responsible consumption initiatives and circular economy models throughout its value chain. Capgemini developed a tool with Red Eléctrica that allows the company to establish measurable objectives, project them over time and evaluate them periodically, in order to meet its sustainability challenges.

The tool uses a single unit of measurement to track environmental sustainability, incorporating factors such as emissions, waste, and raw material consumption. The tool also allows Red Eléctrica to calculate the monetary value of the contributions to sustainability within its Circular Economy strategy, showing the economic impact both for the Red Eléctrica Group and for the wider society. This allows the company to make better decisions based on real impact, effectively evaluate the results of its strategy, and monitor its overall viability and efficiency.

According to Red Eléctrica Group’s Sustainability Director, Antonio Calvo Roy: “The tool we have created with Capgemini helps us to identify the savings we can make in terms of resources, waste and emissions for each of the initiatives in our Circular Economy Roadmap. It is a fantastic tool for decision making and for leveraging the initiatives with the greatest impact on sustainability.”

Cyril Garcia, CEO of Capgemini Invent and Group Executive Board Member, said: “At Capgemini, the foundation of our work is supporting our clients on their sustainability journey. We are proud to work with clients who are so committed to achieving their climate action goals. Through this project we have enabled Red Eléctrica to continuously assess and improve the impacts of its sustainability initiatives, and to demonstrate its important contribution to promoting the circular economy. This is an exciting example of how we are harnessing the power of data and design, in collaboration with clients and other stakeholders, to establish leadership and best practices in sustainable transformation.”

The new tool also establishes mechanisms to maximize the impact of current initiatives, modifying existing resources in a way that favors projects with greater capacity for positive impact. Through its implementation, new sustainable initiatives will be incorporated into Red Eléctrica’s circular economy roadmap, using a more efficient cost-benefit analysis, helping the company to provide stakeholders with greater transparency around its goals and achievements, and demonstrate its leadership in sustainability.

The collaboration is an example of Capgemini’s recently announced Net Zero Strategy Offering to help organizations move from pledges to results on their sustainability journey.
