The Armed Forces Covenant has recognised Capgemini’s commitment to veterans and reservists by awarding us Silver in their Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. The award is invaluable to our organisation; read on to hear from some of our Veteran’s Employee Resource Group (VERG) members on what it means to them.
For employers, a key part of the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) – of which we are signatories – is the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, which encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same. The scheme encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
We are thrilled that following our initial Bronze recognition in 2017, this year we have been recognised with the Silver award.

Recruitment Manager and former soldier Kiran Fraser-Neve, who pursued the recognition, shares why it’s so important for Capgemini. “As an organisation, the award is invaluable. It will highlight to those ex-service personnel looking for employment that we’re an inclusive organisation, who champion and celebrate diversity and crucially, recognise the many exceptional skills veterans and reservists can bring to Capgemini.”
Key to Kiran’s submission was highlighting our VERG employee network and the role they play. Since being established in 2019, our veteran’s employee resource group has provided support to service veterans and reservists, providing new experiences and networking opportunities. VERG’s membership mandate is clear – it’s not just about veterans but friends and family also – in fact, anyone who has an interest in the services; all are welcome.
Of the achievement, VERG co-chair Bill Twilbill said: “The award is a great recognition of the work that Capgemini has done in engaging regular and reserve members of our Armed Forces. Capgemini recognises the skills and values that members of the Armed Forces bring to our team and to the benefit of our customers. We continue to grow and support our community of serving and veteran servicemen and women as well as their families.”
VERG co-chair Teresa Perry-Denton added: “Having served in the Armed Forces it did feel that during my Service, that I forgave some of the rights enjoyed by those outside the Armed Forces. So, it’s great to work for and realise the effort that Capgemini have gone to, to ensure that they have no gaps in this area and that their ex-servicemen & women and reserve personnel have a voice and are treated fairly, valued and respected in their new careers.
Capgemini has also been super supportive in the establishment of a Veteran Community, which is inclusive and is an acknowledgement of the lengths Capgemini will go to in order to ensure support is present.”
